A third class lever has the effort located between the fulcrum and the load. It requires less distance of travel for the effort but a greater effort than the load. Examples of third class levers include power shovels used in construction which use the lever mechanism to dig and move dirt with less effort over a shorter distance than the load. Another example is the human arm, where the elbow acts as the fulcrum and the bicep muscle provides the effort to lift an object acting as the load.
