The UC Open Access Policy was adopted by the Academic Council to increase access to research and scholarship produced by UC faculty. It requires Senate faculty to deposit their scholarly articles in eScholarship, UC's institutional repository, after publication. The policy covers articles published with agreements signed after July 2013, excluding books, student works, and articles published before the policy. Compliance does not require changing publishing practices and there is no cost to faculty. Resources are available to help faculty make informed decisions about the policy, which is being phased in starting with required deposit at UC Berkeley as of November 2014.
