Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

I am the youngest of 6 children. My mom is African- Barcelona, Spain
American, my dad is Caucasian, and my 5 siblings are
all African-American. I lost my mom to a brain Technology
aneurysm when I was 6 years old, and all 6 of us were iPhone
raised by my mom's sister, my Aunt Fern. I was born
and raised in Oakland, CA, and then El Cerrito, CA Sports team
after my mom's death. Oakland RAIDERS!

Life always felt uncertain to me because I lost my mom
at such a young age, so I strove to control as much of Season
my destiny as possible by getting good grades. I Summer, summer, and more
majored in Industrial Engineering at Stanford because I summer!
had no idea what I wanted to do with my life - I just
knew that Engineering was a degree that would enable Quote
me to get a good job, and I got a Master's degree in "Excellence is not a singular act but
Industrial Engineering because I really liked school and a habit. You are what you do

I lived in 5 different states in the 5 years after
graduating from college, and have had at least 3 different careers in the past 20 years. Each
career move for me has been about getting me closer and closer to the subject matter that I
am most passionate about - kids. Speaking of kids, I had 3 beautiful kids (Gabrielle, Seneca,
and Hendrix), but lost Seneca when he was 3 months old. Gabrielle is now 7, Hendrix is now
3, and they are the greatest blessings in my life.
