2. THESIS TOPIC
COMPARISON OF DIAGNOSTIC EFFICACY OF
ULTRASOUND AND MRI IN EVALUATION OF
ROTATOR CUFF INJURIES WITH
ARTHROSCOPY.
3. INTRODUCTION
Rotator cuff tears are amongst the most
frequently encountered problems in the
shoulder joint. Clinical assessment has limited
role and radiological imaging is necessary for
confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate
management.Ultrasound and MRI are two
most useful and widely used imaging modality
for evaluation of shoulder pathologies.
4. AIM OF THE STUDY
To compare the diagnostic efficacy of
ultrasound and MRI in detection of full
thickness and partial thickness rotator cuff
tears in clinically suspected patients, with
arthroscopy used as gold standard.
5. OBJECTIVES
1. To compare the sensitivity, specificity and
positive and negative predictive values of
Ultrasonogram and MRI to the gold standard (
arthroscopy) , in clinically suspected rotator cuff
injuries of shoulder.
2. To obtain receiver operator statistics (ROC
curve) to compare USG and MRI with arthroscopy
6. MATERIALS AND METHODS
