A father owes a moneylender money and is afraid of him. The moneylender wants to marry the man's daughter. He proposes a game where he puts two pebbles - one black, one white - in a bag. If she picks the black pebble, she must marry him and the debt is forgiven. If she picks white, only the debt is forgiven. Refusing means her father goes to jail. The girl notices he puts two black pebbles in the bag. Rather than accuse him, she pretends to drop the pebble she picks so it is lost in the path. This prevents the moneylender from knowing which pebble she picked.
