- When we look at the press, there is confusion around the smart city concept. Smart grid, smart city, Green city…. There is no doubt that each project is unique. But are we all going in the same directions with different path?
- To figure out the answer, we asked you 4 questions. And would like to thanks all that anwer to these questions and shared with us their vision The main characteristics we are searching for our smart city projects are Innovative, intelligent, innovation, friendly Startup city, an economic engine for wealth creation came first But not so far Art city, a place for human creation and art, and Plan IT a urban operating system to manage all interaction. We see technology as a strong enabler And we think we left the « pick of inflated expactation » and are ready But be carefull with that results, since it’s a mix of early projects and more advanced project This is where colletivively we stands
- Then I simplfied the words to few concepts E-participation and Community shows the involvment of citizens
- According to this survey, the city as a place for life and sharing, is transforming into a smart city: place for e-participation, communities and innovation Let’s call it a sensitive city
- We started digging all the data we could to automate some processes. Then data anlytics helped us to reach some kind of intelligence in optimisation. Now the focus is on reaching all participants in the community. Among those, the dwellers, and stimulate innovation and sharing The technology is still a strong enabler for this, but the technology is most of the journey, not the goal.
- Cities started to manage technologies, but citizens and enterprise are fast also to master them Facebook is the third largest community of people on earth after China and India. Not to say it is already the first sensitive city on earth if we can connect all its members to data in all cities in the world !
- But when we think about linking the dwellers it’s not only people, it’s also objects We now have more connected objects than people with estimate from 20 to 50 billions in 2020.
- People and objects are linked together in the sensitive city The answer to the question where are the robots that Asimov described in its novels 50 years ago : you are the robots Connected glasses Connected straps GPS shirt Tracking shoes… Welcome to the sensitive city if wen can tap into these data for innovation and e-participation This is also a place where physical world meets virtual world
- We said that the sensitive city is based on communities, connections, trust, to produce innovation Well, look around you : Social networks are building the biggest communities ever Airn&b, Zilok, Blablacar, to name few, are building the sharing economy Trust, is well establish on the internet An innovation is everywhere… So it is both a threath an a wonderfull opportunity, but Citizens are hacking our smart city projects !
