The early church in Acts enjoyed popularity but later faced criticism, as outlined in three reasons. First, the doctrine of one God and Jesus Christ was unpopular to pagans and Jews. Second, the church aggressively pressed the battle for truth against the world and false brethren. Third, this sometimes caused disturbances and uprisings as people did not want to give up sin, though the true church should not be deterred from proceeding with truth.

Contemporary Comments on John's Gospel in the BibleBarryEJones
This Gospel has wonderful poetic and "picturess" language about Jesus. It is written by an unknown person who was an inspired evangelist about 95 AD, some 60 years after the death of Jesus, and yet became a mainstay of traditional christian theology. Would Jesus have approved of the sayings attributed to him and of the theology written about him? It is suggested that the christian church now has a real problem with this theology such that evangelism has become impossible in 21st century Britain for the mainstream churches.
Pater Noster (Matthew 6:9-13) As a Paradigm for Ecumenical Commitment among C...iosrjce
Overt self-alienation characterises wilful disunity existing among Christians, particularly in Nigeria.
Evidence of this is obvious in the number of Christian sects springing up daily. Each has its own interpretation
of the message of Christ’s Good News, thereby generating diversified and conflicting views on Christian belief.
This paper argues that the Pater Noster (The Lord’s Prayer), a common Christian prayer, is a paradigm for
ecumenical commitment. It studies the Matthean version of this prayer in conjunction with its other traditions in
the New Testament and the Didache. In the Pater Noster we find the reason for ecumenical endeavour for which
Jesus prayed and which should be a concern of all Christians

There are numerous churches in the land. Can they all be right when they have different teachings and practices? They have different names and organizations too. Does Jesus approve of them all? If so, is He a hypocrite for approving contradictory teachings and practices? He would have to be.
Where did all the churches come from? They did not all come from the Bible because the Bible teaches unity (1 Cor. 1:10). They had to start somewhere; they started from men. And, it is worth noting they are not all headed to the same place (Matt. 7:21-23). Men can be religious, but wrong. Even though they are not all going to the same place, they are all going somewhere.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

The sect everywhere spoken against acts 28
1. The Sect Everywhere
Spoken Against Acts 28:22
The church enjoyed early popularity (Acts 2:47) –
but things changed (Acts 28:22).
We must accept the fact that the true church does
not appeal to the masses (cf. Matt. 7:13,14)
We can expect it to be favorably received by many
honest hearts (Luke 8:15)
I want to look at three basic reasons for the
church’s unpopularity by the end of Acts.
2. The Doctrine Taught
• The doctrine of one God was unpopular to the pagan
world (Acts 17:16-32; Eph 4:4-6)
• The doctrine of Jesus Christ was unpopular to the Jewish
world (Acts 17:1-5; 1 Cor 1:23)
• His deity.
• His universal mission (Acts 22:21-22)
• Bible doctrine is often unpopular with modern religion.
• Baptism (1 Pet. 3:21)
• One church (Eph. 4:4; Matt. 16:18)
• Godly living (1 John 2:15; Tit. 2:11,12)
3. The Tactics Used
•They aggressively pressed the battle for
truth.
•To the world (Acts 17:1,2; 17:16, 17)
•To false brethren (Gal. 2:4-5)
•They often identified error with it’s
advocates (III John 9; 2 Tim. 2:17,18).
•They spoke what was profitable, rather
than popular (Acts 20:20; 1 Tim. 5:20).
4. The Results Produced
• They sometimes caused an “uproar.” (Acts
16:19-24; 17:5-9, 18, 32; 18:12-17).
• They could expect such (Matt. 5:11; 2 Tim.
3:12).
• People do not give up the “perks” of sin
easily.
• The pleasures of sin. (Heb 11:25)
• The power and prestige of sinful positions
5. Conclusion
• We must not let criticism get us down.
•Understand this criticism is unjust.
• Proceed with knowledge that truth is not
the most popular course.(John 8:31-32)
• Conformity brings no criticism (cf. Rom.
12:2).
• Remember: “Great is your reward in
heaven...”
