The speaker comes to a fork in the road in a yellow wood, with two paths diverging. Both paths looked equally worn and untraveled. Though one path seemed more grassy and worn, upon closer inspection they were nearly identical. Unable to choose, the speaker decides to take one path to explore another day, choosing the other in the moment but doubting they would return. The speaker knows one choice will lead to another, and takes the less traveled path, knowing it will make all the difference.

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, as just as fair , Then took the other , I doubted if I should ever come back .
