The poet describes coming to a fork in the road in a yellow wood, where two paths diverged. He could not take both paths, so he stood for a long time trying to decide which to take. He ultimately chose the path that was less worn, thinking it may have been better, though they seemed equally worn. However, he wonders if he will ever return to take the other path, knowing that whichever choice he makes could define his future path through life.
