Introduction
Jim Crow era can be considered as the era of struggle for the black Americans or African
Americans. The federal government of the United States of America and the Confederate States
of America focused on the development and implementation of some useful laws for the black
Americans in order to overcome the social challenges related to the racial segregation in the
Southern parts of the United States of America. It is true that several individuals participated in
this revolution. This study will focus on the discussion of profile background and role of Philip
Randolph in the Jim Crow Movement in the United States of America.
Discussion
Philip Randolph can be referred as one of the popular and renowned trade unionist,
power broker, labour leaders, and the leaders of civil right protection of human beings in the
United States of America. It is highly important to discuss that different types of employees used
to work in the firms and industries in the United States of America. He realized the Black
Americans of African Americans are facing racial challenges in the workplace due to their skin
colour and majority of the white Americans within the workplaces.
Philip Randolph was the son of a popular Methodist minister. He was born in Florida and
moved in the New York City at the early stage of his life as his dream was to become a popular
actor. Moreover, it is also important to discuss that he was highly educated. He joined City
College at night and completed his graduation with good grades. After the completion of his
graduation studies, he opened an employment agency along with his friends. Most importantly, it
will be effective to discuss that several black employees within the community were
unemployed. Therefore, he wanted to give employment opportunity to them in order to maintain

sustainability in their lives and within the entire community. This particular move by Philip
Randolph helped the Black Americans to gain employment opportunity in the war industry
during the First World War. In the year 1917, impressive numbers of black soldiers were
recruited in the army by the tactical moves of Philip Randolph1.
After this particular US-Germany war in the year 1917, Philip Randolph started giving
lectures in the Rand School of Social Science based in the New York City. However, this school
faced huge losses and closed down unsuccessfully. Apart from this, it is also important to
mention that he was requested by the Pullman Company in the year 1925 to become their Union
Leader. Slowly and gradually, he found out some problems within the community. He
discovered the people of Black American community are getting deprived of gaining basic
fundamental rights. Apart from this, it is also important to mention that he opposed and argued
that there is a need for the recruitment of Black Americans in the Federal Government
Parliament.
It is also important to mention that different types of revolutions and movements were
proposed and lead by Philip Randolph. Before the Second World War, he tried to ensure
effective and significant development of the appropriate and fair employment practice agency
and committee within the United States of America2. After the Second World War, Philip
Randolph developed nonviolent civil disobedient movement against the President and Military of

the United States of America. He warned the President of the United States of America to focus
on the effective sustainability within the community to maintain collaboration between the black
and white communities. However, different types of approaches were taken and considered by
Philip Randolph in order to ensure the protection of the fundamental rights of the Black
Americans. It is true that he lead thousands of Black Americans against the racial injustice and
ideologies of the President of The United States of America. Racism was a big problem for the
economic, political, and social growth of the United States of America as the country was
suffering from several inadequate aspects due to ongoing racism. However, several individuals
fought against racism in order to maintain sustainability within the society. Apart from this, it is
also important t to mention that different types of organizations and individuals from foreign
countries also supported these revolutionaries to raise their voice against the racism. Slowly and
gradually, these efforts and successful initiation of the movements helped in the maintaining of
social as well as communal sustainability.
Conclusion
Jim Crow can be considered as an approach or a movement initiated b the Black
Americans during the 18th and 19th century in order to protect the fundamental civil rights of the
black Americans within the community. However, it is highly important to mention that different
individuals have played important roles in the movement, but the contribution of Randolph
cannot be forgotten as his speech and fight for freedom influenced thousands of individuals
within the community.
