2. Introduction/Background
• Crime mapping is an important technical function that is part of modern
police enforcement. Police analysis routinely map crime incidents in order
to both detect general patterns of crime that can focus their enforcement
and prevention efforts as well to identify and apprehend specific offenders
who are committing crimes.
• Crime mapping tool was launched in 2008 and since 2011 data at street
level have been made available.
• When crime incidents occur on a street they are plotted over the center
point of a street that has catchment area of a minimum of eight postal
addresses.

3. • Crime maps using a single procedure throughout the country to ensure
consistency.
• Communication and sharing information between police and the public
has yielded positive results on people’s perceptions, trust and confidence
about crime policing (Hohl et al. 2010; Quinton).

4. Statement of the problem
This study will determine the relevance of crime mapping in
Relation to Crime rates in Katipunan , Zamboanga del Norte.
Specially, it will seek to answer the following:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
1.1 Gender
1.2 Age
1.3 Position Status
1.4 Length of Service

5. 2. What is the level of crime rates in relevance to crime mapping in
Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte ?
3. What are the observations of the respondent’s police/ officer and civilian in
terms on the relevance of crime mapping to the crime rates in Katipunan,
Zamboanga del Norte?
4. Is there a significant difference in terms on the relevance of the crime
mapping to the crime rates in Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte?

6. Methodology
• This chapter presents and discusses the methodologies of the study which
includes research method used, research environment, research
respondents, research instrument, scoring procedure, data gathering
procedure and statistical treatment of data.
Research Method
• The descriptive survey method will be used in the study. Self -made
questionnaire as the principal tool of gathering data. Further, the
researcher will coordinate to the crime/police officers in Katipunan,
Zamboanga del Norte. Also, the researchers will get the total list of
crime/police officers from the Office of Police Department, will also ask
permission of some community civilian to give time to answer the
questionnaire.

7. Data gathering procedure
During the data collection the researcher must observe the following;
1. The researcher during the conduct of this research shall ensure that the
research respondent will not be subjected to harm or intimidation in any
ways whatsoever.
2. Full consent among the respondent as well as the establishment will be
obtained prior to the distribution of the questionnaires.
3. The researcher shall ensure the protection and privacy of the research
respondents and adequate level of confidentiality of research data will
also be ensure.
4. Anonymity of individuals participating in the research will also be ensure.
5. This study will submitted to the board of panel for the verification of the
instruments, resources and methods used by the researchers to ensure the
study’s accuracy, quality, and credibility to be at its utmost level.
