Indistar® is a web-based tool that guides a district or school team in charting its improvement and managing the continuous improvement process. You might call it a change management tool. Indistar® is a platform adapted by each State to fit its needs. Indistar® is called different things in different states. For example, Illinois calls it Rising Star, Alaska calls it STEPP, Idaho and Oklahoma call it the WISE tool, and the Bureau of Indian Education calls it Native Star. The system is also tailored for the purposes of each state, its districts, and its schools.

Our first case study in Artesia, New Mexico was done in 2008. This case study updates their PD 360 use, plus the addition of Common Core 360 and Observation 360, components of the Educator Effectiveness System. Read about how their continued use has improved differentiated instruction and created effective questioning.

Education reform initiatives tend to promise higher effectiveness in classrooms especially when emphasis is given to e-learning and digital resources. Practical changes in classroom realities or school organization, however, are lacking. A major European initiative entitled Open Discovery Space (ODS) examined the challenge of modernizing school education via a large-scale implementation of an open-scale methodology in using technology-supported innovation through numerous personalization services at different levels (school, teacher and student level). The talk describes this innovation scheme which involved 5,000 schools and 10,000 teachers all over Europe, embedded technology-enhanced learning into wider school environments and provided training to teachers. An analysis of 10,000 data sets from students classroom work will be presented as a framework to deploy an embedded assessment scheme during the lesson practice.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Schoolrunner is a Denver-based program that is at the forefront of offering educators and
schools with the tools they need to allow teachers more time in the classroom doing what
they do best – teaching students.
This all-in-one student data system allows educators to track grades, academic standards,
attendance, behavior and family contact information. It integrates with the school’s existing
Student Information System (SIS) and provides resources to help with analysis of the
collected data through graphs, pivot tables and dashboards as well as offers tips and tricks
for teachers to enhance classroom instruction. Teachers can also set up logins for students
so they can track their own progress.
Launched in 2012, Schoolrunner focuses on helping schools foster strong communities
centered on actionable data. Currently, the platform serves more than 50,000 students in
50-100 schools around the country.
The program is supported by the Colorado Impact Fund, which encourages local community
involvement through Colorado companies.
The Reiman Foundation and Hexagon, Inc. supports the Fund and programs like
Schoolrunner that aim to provide educators with the tools they need to better serve students
in their classroom room and improve student success
