Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom from 1837 until her death in 1901. She was the longest reigning British monarch, ruling for over 63 years. Victoria married her cousin Prince Albert in 1840 and they had nine children together. During her reign Britain engaged in the Crimean War and grew its global empire. Victoria was deeply mourning after Albert's death in 1861 and withdrew from public life for many years. She had conflicts with Prime Ministers Gladstone but favored Benjamin Disraeli. Victoria died at age 81 and was succeeded by her son Edward VII.
