Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom from 1837 until her death in 1901. She was the longest reigning British monarch, ruling for over 63 years. Victoria married her cousin Prince Albert in 1840 and they had nine children together. After Albert's death in 1861, Victoria entered a deep state of mourning and withdrew from public life for many years. By the late 1800s, she had reconciled with her prime ministers and again became more actively involved in politics. Victoria passed away in 1901 and was succeeded by her eldest son, Edward VII, ending the House of Hanover's rule over Britain.
