Introduction
Goal 1 of the President’s New Freedom Commission Report states that: “Americans understand that mental health is essential to overall health.” This seems like a simple enough goal. It is, however, not as easy to achieve as it appears.
The link between mental and physical health has long been a subject of interest to theorists and practitioners and has been studied in the general population. For example, in a general population study, Sederer et al. (2006) found that those New Yorkers who reported nonspecific psychological distress suffered more physical health problems, were more likely to smoke, be inactive and have a poor diet than those who didn’t report distress. They noted that these individuals were much more likely to have hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, asthma, and diabetes.
The link with physical health is especially important for those suffering from serious mental illness. We learned in a previous lesson that persons with serious mental illness were likely to die 25 years earlier than adults in the general population (Colton & Manderscheid, 2006). Of those who die, 87% do so because of medical illnesses (Parks, Radke, & Mazade, 2008). These studies, results from Sederer et al. in a general population, and others show that physical and psychological problems not only co-exist, but also have a relationship. Treating one without addressing the other will result in inadequate care for the individual who suffers from both. Not much in terms of practice, however, has been done to address this issue until fairly recently.
Why Integrate Care?
Addressing the physical health needs of persons with mental illness has become increasingly important as more evidence becomes available of the link between them. An account of a recently held forum at the Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care noted:
“For years, the prevailing notion in medicine held that the body is treated in a physician's office and the mind in a ...

Barriers to Practice and Impact on Care:
An Analysis of the Psychiatric Mental
Health Nurse Practitioner Role

• Abstract
This paper is a retrospective review of the literature analyzing the role of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in
the community. Presented here is an appraisal of national and state mental health initiatives. Professional nursing regulations
are reviewed, focusing on New >brk State advanced practice nursing. Barriers to practice are assessed with discussion on how
barriers, such as statutory collaboration, impede access to treatment in the community for mentally ill psychiatric patients.
The current New )brk State legislative agenda is featured. Clinical vignettes from a nurse practitioner's private community
practice are presented to introduce and conclude how clinical practice barriers impede autonomous practice.
Clinical vignette (2007)
An advanced practice psychiatric mental
health nurse practitioner (APRN-PMHNP)
provides mental health services within a
small community based private practice. The
New York State Nurse Practice Tlci mandates
that a psychiatric nurse practitioner (NP)
maintain a statutory collaborative agreement
with a collaborating psychiatrist in order
to provide comprehensive mental health
services. Although some third-party insurance
companies authorize APRN-PMHNPs on
panels, a collaborative agreement must be
established with a psychiatrist from each
insurance panel. This becomes a critical issue
when the collaborative psychiatrist decided to
close his practice and abruptly discontinued
the collaborative agreement. In order to prevent
discontinuity in care, the APRN-PMHNP needed
to establish a collaborative agreement with
another psychiatrist and develop a practice
agreement (Form 4NP) based on protocols
established by the State of New York. This
time-consuming process resulted in a disruption
in treatment for several patients. The APRN-
PMHNP managing this case reported a major
incident by a high-risk patient that occurred
as a result of this disruption in continuity of
care. This case vignette highlights the potential
negative consequences related to statutory
collaborative agreements as well as the ability
of an APRN-PMHNP to provide effective, safe,
and consistent care.

Although in some cases behavioral and psychiatric/mental are grouped under the same broad
category, behavioral health problems are generally effectively treated on an outpatient basis with
combination psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy (medications). Behavioral health professionals
are licensed by the state in which they reside to practice, and they collaborate on the management
of clients’ behavioral problems. These professionals include psychiatrists, psychologists,
psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers, family counselors, and drug/alcohol and mental
health counselors (Parker, 2002). Such chronic problems as dementia and mental retardation are
considered psychiatric/mental problems rather than behavioral.
There is a distinct interconnectedness between mental health and health in general. The WHO
defines health as, “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the
absence of disease and infirmity” (WHO, 2001b, p. 1). Mental health on the other hand is defined
as, “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the
normal stress of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his
or her community … it is determined by socioeconomic and environmental factors and it is linked

This research problem meets the litmus test because it is researchable and has not yet been studied comprehensively. It is an essential issue with potential implications for policy and justice. The research gap in this topic is that no existing research looks explicitly into the psychological effects of the death penalty in Texas. To better reveal this gap, further research can be conducted better to understand the psychological impacts of the death penalty. This research could include qualitative interviews with those affected by the death penalty in Texas, such as family members of those on death row, legal professionals, and mental health professionals (Paul & Criado, 2020).
In order to expertly respond to the qualitative checklist for Chapters 1 through 3, I will need to master a range of skills and subject matter areas. Most importantly, I will need to understand the research topic in depth, including the relevant literature, current debates, and potential implications. Additionally, I will need to become proficient in qualitative methods, such as conducting interviews, analyzing data, and writing results. Furthermore, I will need to thoroughly understand the research process, including creating a research question, developing a research design, and presenting the results (Paul & Criado, 2020).
To build upon the research conducted thus far, a research question I could develop throughout the rest of this course is: What are the psychological effects of the death penalty in Texas on those affected by it? This question could be explored through qualitative interviews with those affected by the death penalty in Texas. This could include the family members of those on death row, legal and mental health professionals. Through these interviews, I could gain insight into the psychological effects of the death penalty in Texas and how it has impacted those involved. This research could help inform better policies and practices related to the death penalty in Texas (Paul & Criado, 2020).

A. De Luca, Blosnich, Hentschel, King, & Amen (2016). The authors indicate that mental health has emerged as one of the critical areas of focus in recent times, and for a long time, it had been sidelined. However, with the realization that most health conditions are related in one way or another to a mental disorder, this area is now been studied extensively, and more attention has been given to patients.
B. Mental health professionals point to insufficient mental healthcare resources in the United States as one of the major factors contributing to the rising suicide rate in the country. Nevertheless, these professionals noted that emergency providers paly major role at forefront of the problem and may also play significant role in its prevention. The experts reiterated the necessity for providers to possess the skills required for managing patients at lower suicide risk levels, especially in settings in which such patients do not enough access to behavioral healthcare providers and that the providers need to be accustomed to suicide risk, especially when there are widely publicized high-profile instances of suicide.

The mean, median, and weighted treatment gap, and the 12-month prevalence by severity and category of mental disorder were estimated for the general adult, child-adolescent, and indigenous populations. Disability-adjusted Life Years and Years Lived with Disability were calculated from the Global Burden of Disease study. Mental and substance use disorders accounted for 10.5% of the global burden of disease in the Americas (Kohn, Ali, Puac-Polanco, Figueroa, López-Soto, Morgan, & Vicente, 2018).

Health, 36(1), 375–392. doi: 10.1146/annurev-publhealth-032013-182419
Abstract
Although immigration and immigrant populations have become increasingly important foci in
public health research and practice, a social determinants of health approach has seldom been
applied in this area. Global patterns of morbidity and mortality follow inequities rooted in
societal, political, and economic conditions produced and reproduced by social structures,
policies, and institutions. The lack of dialogue between these two profoundly related
phenomena—social determinants of health and immigration—has resulted in missed
opportunities for public health research, practice, and policy work. In this article, we discuss
primary frameworks used in recent public health literature on the health of immigrant
populations, note gaps in this literature, and argue for a broader examination of immigration as
both socially determined and a social determinant of health. We discuss priorities for future
research and policy to understand more fully and respond appropriately to the health of the
populations affected by this global phenomenon.
Annotated Bibliography
The article reports on the importance of identifying social determinants and the effects of
socially determined structures among immigrant populations in the United States. The study
identifies ways in which immigrants health outcomes are based on biases due to using

information based on group behaviors instead of on an induvial case. The impact of migrant and
immigrant individuals, physical and mental health in these communities’ changes as social,
economic, and political policies take place. This article is helpful in that broadens the
immigration experience including more central factors than just language, income, or education
as the cause of all health related problems in this community. But to show factors of power
structures and the ability to put in place effective health interventions that respond to direct
causes of poor or declining health in these populations.

A. Basu, Rehkopf, Siddiqi, Glymour, & Kawachi (2016). According to the authors, there is a gap here in the changes being experienced in social policies in recent years. It has created a gap among women with low income in South Texas. Accordingly, the authors used the determination of the differences in income to understand the relationships between health outcomes and welfare reforms as it impacts the less privileged women in comparison to the most affected women.
B. Ly, A. (2019). This study focused on the factors that influence the utilization of mental health among Vietnamese Americans and the barriers to seeking help in Texas. The study had 12 participants including providers and community leaders who were familiar with the target population. The findings of the study indicated that there is a gap here in cultural acceptance of mental health treatment. Hence the need to culturally specify mental health intervention to improve mental health utilization in the community. However, the study was limited by the small sample size; therefore, the findings cannot be generalized. Further studies should include more cultural groups to validate the findings of this research.
C. Kwan, P. P., Soniega-Sherwood, J., Esmundo, S., Watts, J., Pike, J., Sabado-Liwag, M., & Palmer, P. H. (2020). The authors of this study aimed to evaluate the facilitators and barriers to mental health utilization among Pacific Islanders. Semi structure interviews were used to collect information from 12 pacific islanders. Trained community leaders recruited eligible candidates for the study. The study was limited by the small sample size. Five themes arose from the study. There is a gap here in regard to cost of healthcare, mental health stigma and language and culture barriers, which were the themes that emerged concerning barriers affecting the utilization of mental health services. The researchers indicated the need for future studies to include a larger sample size to enable generalization of the findings.

The Tea Party movement that started in 2010 is considered by some .docxsuzannewarch
The Tea Party movement that started in 2010 is considered by some political analysts as an example of a “grass roots” initiative by frustrated common citizens who seek to influence national policy. In 2011, the Occupy Wall Street movement came into prominence and was immediately compared to the Tea Party.
For this discussion question you will take the identity of an analyst working for the Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) of the Miami-Dade Police Department. Your Bureau commander has assigned you the task of analyzing these two political movements that are likely to protest during the upcoming DRNC event next year. Your analysis and recommendations will weigh heavily on your command staff’s policy formation as it pertains to these two particular political groups.
For this discussion post, you must conduct your own research and cite at least three sources. Your report to the CIB Commander must be at least 500 words long, but no more than 1,000 words. As always, your response must be written at the graduate level and cited properly according to APA style guidelines.
At a minimum, you are to address the following:
Describe and analyze the Tea Party and the Occupy Wall Street movements and determine their underlying motives and their likely involvement in the upcoming DRNC event.
How have these movements differed from other political movements in the past?
How do the Tea Party and the Occupy Wall Street movement differ from one another?
What policy recommendations do you make to the Miami-Dade Police Department command staff on how to deal with these two political movements during the upcoming DRNC?

Caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging. Literature suggests that family caregivers may
experience increased symptoms of psychological and social malfunctioning. However, it may also provide one
with opportunities to renew relationships or feel connected to a higher power. The current study is an attempt to
investigate how caregiving influences a person’s general wellbeing. The sample consisted of 25 caregivers of
cancer patients and 25 appropriately matched control.World Health Organization- QOL (1991),

Article 1: Immigration as a Social Determinant of Health

Gaps
D. Volkert, J., Andreas, S., Härter, M., Dehoust, M. C., Sehner, S., Suling, A., . . . Schulz, H. (2018). The aim of this study was to evaluate various aspects of the utilization of mental health services among the elderly. The study had 3,142 participants aged between 65-84 years. Logic regression approach was used to analyze predisposing, enabling, and need factors among the participants. Similarly, the study found that there is ...

Context
Recent technologies employed in the study of the brain regions regulating speech are helping scientists better understand the neural basis of human behaviors interacting with the world. For example, MRI imaging studies are revealing other areas within the brain that may also play a role in language and reading. Another example is that both Broca's and Wernicke's areas are fundamental to speech ability, but the specific mechanism of how each plays into oral language is still unclear. This is still a new area that challenges psychologists, neurologists, and speech therapists.
Humans use different parts of their brain to discriminate objects from people. In fact, we may have specialized neurons for recognizing faces. This relates to the main theme of this assessment: vision and visual perception. Many questions about human vision are unanswered. For example, different areas of the brain respond differently to visual recognition tasks, but how and why these areas cooperate to process visual information remains unclear. Another example: The visual cortex contains several layers, the functional roles of which are the subject of intense investigation. Questions include, .

the story of options and the development of the Black-Scholes formul.docxsuzannewarch
the story of options and the development of the Black-Scholes formula is intertwined with the story of international financial markets and investment and global financial crisis. Although B-S was originally developed for pricing stock options, the formula that we have been using in class for currency options is virtually identical. Specifically, except for the Tr e − * term that discounts by the foreign interest rate, and of course the fact that the underlying asset is a foreign currency rather than a share of stock, the formulas are exactly the same. In addition to the development of the B-S formula, the video brings together many concepts that we have seen in class this semester, including (in no particular order): - Replicating portfolio and no-arbitrage pricing - Market efficiency vs. forecasting - Statistical methods for characterizing returns and measuring risk - Risk transfer role of derivatives and hedging - Derivatives trading and exchanges - International capital flows and investment - Currency crisis and contagion Besides these, the video also gives a great glimpse into the world of academic finance, the inner workings of financial markets and institutions, and the nature of financial crises. While you are watching, note the similarity between what got us into trouble back then and what got us into trouble today (e.g., excessive debt/leverage to fuel a property boom, underassessment of risk and/or overconfidence in our ability to deal with risk, government bailouts, etc.).
Choose any five (5) of the bullet points above and discuss the topic further by describing what we learned in class about the topic and linking it to specific parts of the video in which it is mentioned or occurs. A two to three paragraph discussion for each point should suffice, totaling 2-3 pages single spaced for he entire assignment

The St. Clare Hospital was founded in 1988. In the past few years, the revenues have dropped steadily to a point where CEO James Edwards is considering cost control to improve the organization’s bottom line. Mr. Edwards understands physicians play a critical role in controlling cost, but they do not have a great interest in cooperating with him to sustain the viability of the hospital. Mr. Edwards decides to hire Wendy Jones as the chief operating officer and empower her to cut costs for the hospital.
The first measure taken by
Ms. Jones is to outsource the interpretation of imaging readings and fire the radiologist Dr. Harris. By doing so, the hospital would save $160,000 per year. However, after two weeks, the hospital sees 18% inaccuracy rates in outsourced reading reports. The hospital might face legal liabilities from inaccurate readings. Mr. Edwards and Ms. Jones want to stay with the plan to control costs, but the physicians are furious. The medical director, Dr. Wiseman, gathers all staff physicians to a call for action.

The sound fixing and ranging layer in the ocean, or the SOFAR ch.docxsuzannewarch
The sound fixing and ranging layer in the ocean, or the
SOFAR
channel, is at a depth where the sound waves bend towards a region of minimum sound velocity due to refraction. This
channeling
of sound occurs because of the properties of sound and the temperature, and pressure differences at different depths in the ocean. There are many places where the sound waves can travel many thousands of meters without the signal losing significant energy. Keep in mind that the depth of the
SOFAR
channel varies with latitude. It is deepest in the subtropics and comes to the surface in high latitudes, where the sound propagates in the surface layer.
Humans have taken advantage of this layer in many ways. One such use was the Acoustic Thermometry of Ocean Climate (ATOC) project. The
U.S.
Navy has an array of hydrophones, which were used in the past for deep ocean surveillance during the cold war, but have since been used for seismic monitoring, marine mammal monitoring, and for the
ATOC
project. In addition, before
GPS
, the
SOFAR
channel was used for locating ships and aircraft in distress as well as for tracking floats for the study of ocean currents. The use of the
SOFAR
channel is not without controversy.
Respond to the following:
Research the use of the
SOFAR
channel for military, research, and biological activities.
Discuss why the use of
SOFAR
channel could be harmful to marine life. Be specific in your examples.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

PPACA of 2010 brought many changes to the types of provider
organizations available. ACOs and PCMHs are two new
organizations formed under PPACA. Using the readings this
week, discuss the origin, structure, and purpose of the new
organizations formed under PPACA.
Using South University Online Library (for example, CINAHL)
or the Internet, search any three articles from the list below and
evaluate the challenges and opportunities facing payers and
providers as ACOs and PCMHs are implemented:
The patient-center medical home and managed care: Times have
changed, some components have not (Baird, 2011).
Patient-centered medical homes: Will health care reform
provide new options for rural communities and providers?
(Bolin, Gamm, Vest, Edwardson, & Miller, 2011)
Accountable Care Organizations: The case for flexible
partnerships between health plans and providers (Goldsmith,
2011).
Payment reform for primary care within the accountable care
organization a critical issue for health system reform (Goroll &
Schoenbaum, 2012).
Accountable care organizations, the patient-centered medical
home, and health care reform: What does it all mean?
(Longworth, 2011)
Implementing accountable care organizations: Ten potential
mistakes and how to learn from them (Singer & Shortell, 2011).
Based on your research, summarize your findings on the
selected topics and compile your observations in a 5- to 6-page
Microsoft Word document.
Support your responses with examples.
Cite any sources in APA format.

Alcohol and Related Conditions
This week's readings have covered various topics in historical
perspectives. As addiction professionals, it is going to be
important for you to stay current in the research and best
practices of this industry. The National Epidemiologic Survey
on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) is the first
survey that uses the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders-IV (DSM-IV) definitions of independent mood and
anxiety disorders to examine comorbidity or co-occurrence of
mental health disorders. The NESARC results show that
substantial comorbidity between substance use disorders and
independent mood and anxiety disorders is pervasive in the
general population of the United States.
An estimated 17.6 million American adults (8.5 percent) meet
the standard diagnostic criteria for an alcohol use disorder and
approximately 4.2 million (2 percent) meet the criteria for a
drug use disorder (Grant & Dawson, 2006).
"This study does not resolve questions about causal mechanisms
that may underlie relationships between DSM-IV substance use
and mood and anxiety disorders," opines Bridget F. Grant,
Ph.D., Chief of the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Biometry,
Division of Intramural Clinical and Biological Research.
Analyses of data from NESARC's "second wave" in 2004–2005
will help form the foundation for future etiologic research
(Grant & Dawson, 2006).
Using the South University Online Library or the Internet,
research further on information by NESARC on alcohol and
related conditions. Based on your research and the above
information, create a 4- to 5-page Microsoft Word document
5. that includes the answers to the following questions:
According to the NESARC, how prevalent are mood, anxiety,
and personality disorders among alcohol- and drug-dependent
persons?
Compared to nondependent persons, how likely is it for
nicotine-alcohol-dependent persons to havea mental disorder?
What other disorders might you see coexisting together? Why?
How are these disorders related?
Why is it that people with dual disorders are at high risk for
chronic relapse, emergency hospitalizations, vocational
problems, family problems, homelessness, suicide, violence,
sexual and physical victimization, incarceration, and early
death?
Do you agree with National Institutes of Health's (NIH's)
observation that the adults with nicotine dependence or
psychiatric disorders consume 70% of all cigarettes smoked in
the United States? Why or why not?
Support your responses with examples.
