Emerging Adulthood
Emerging adulthood is a new conception of development that focuses on the period from 18 to 25 years. The understanding was developed by the scholars who believe that this time is special and unique. Late teens and early twenties are those two essential components of the period called emerging adulthood. In order to understand emerging adulthood, it is significant to focus on a theoretical background of emerging adulthood theory. Apart from this, it is significant to differentiate the period of emerging adulthood with adolescence and young adult hood. For ages, they treated this period as a time of transition into adulthood. It was the time when teenagers finished schools, entered colleges and universities, applied for jobs, and get married and have a family.
Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, the American scholar. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and spent three years for postdoctoral work at the University of Chicago. The researcher was interested in human development and family studies at the University of Missouri, but then he switched his attention to the age period from 18 to 25 years. For a decade, he works on research on emerging adulthood. Arnett did not limit his studies to America, but he also studied emerging adulthood in Denmark in 2005. He is well-informed in young people and adults. Because this is the most significant part of human life with its distinctive characteristics, Arnett is deeply convinced that emerging adulthood should distinguish from other periods of development.
The scholar shows the relations between emerging adulthood and social and economic changes that occurred during the last decades. By this Arnett means, emerging adulthood resulted from four revolutions of the second part of the 20th century: 1) technology revolution; 2) sexual revolution; 3) women’s movements; and 4) the modern movements (Arnett, 2015). Although all these scholars described a period of emerging adulthood, no one defined it as a separate period of life. According to Arnett, emerging adulthood should be distinguished from other terms of development, as it has its characteristics and peculiarities. For example, Arnett mentions “an important demographic characteristic of emerging adulthood is that there is a great deal of demographic variability, reflecting the wide scope of individual volition during these years” (Arnett, 2000).
Emerging adulthood has changed in America where in the past people grow up faster than nowadays because they took responsibilities earlier in the twenties. To explain the core change of emerging adulthood, Jeffery Arnett took our attention to particular social changes in industrialized countries. First, young people became more oriented to career and personal development than family life and parenthood. Unlike decades ago. Typically, adolescents eagerly anticipate their transitions to young adulthood. They look forward to supporting themselves financially, living independently, and making their own decisions. As young adults transition into middle adulthood, they will likely assume increased responsibilities. Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman (2013) state, "middle adulthood has been referred to as the prime time of life" (p. 441). Typically, adults at this stage have accumulated some satisfaction from their maturity and accomplishments.
Though young and middle adulthood may be exciting and significant times in the human life span, they also present unique challenges for the individual. This week, you begin your study of young and middle adulthood by considering its biological aspects. You explore health issues and changes in physical development during this period. You also consider how your understanding of these issues might influence your assessments of and interactions with individuals in this segment of the life span.

When did you become an adult? Was it the day you graduated from high school? Or, was it the day you moved out of your parents' or caregivers' home? Your description of what it means to be an adult and how and when an adolescent transitions into adulthood may differ from that of your colleagues.
The authors of your course text, Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman, use the term
young and middle adulthood
to identify the life-span time period between age 18 and 65. This classification distinguishes this time in the life of an individual from childhood and adolescence and from the later years of adulthood.

Shannon Bailey, age 22, is a senior in college, majoring in English. She is nearing
graduation and is seeking a career focus. She realizes that a degree in English will
indicate to potential employers that she probably writes well. Yet she also knows that
an English major is not linked to professional positions the way a degree in engineer-
ing, for example, is linked to engineering positions. She is confused about what kind
of career she wants, and also what kind of career she is qualified for. To add to her
confusion, Eric Kim, whom she has been dating for three years and who is two years
older than she, proposed to her a week ago. He wants to get married in a year or two.

goal of this book is to take you on a sociological journey. But let’s begin with a basic question:
What is sociology? First of all, sociology is a discipline of and for curious minds! Sociologists
are deeply committed to answering the question, “Why?” Why are some people desperately
poor and others fabulously wealthy? Why does racial segregation in housing and public education
exist, and why does it persist half a century after civil rights laws were enacted? What accounts for
the declining marriage rate among the working class and the poor in the United States? How can we
explain the fact that low-income people are more likely to be overweight or obese than their middle-
class counterparts? Why is the proportion of women entering and completing college rising while the
proportion of men has fallen? Why, in spite of this, do men as a group still earn higher incomes than
women as a group do? And how is it that social media are being simultaneously praised as instruments
of transformational activism and criticized as causes of social alienation and civic disengagement? Take
a moment now to think about some why questions you have about society and social life: As you look
around you, hear the news, and interact with other people, what strikes you as fascinating—but perhaps
difficult to understand? What are you curious about?
Sociology is an academic discipline that takes a scientific approach to answering the kinds of
questions our curious minds imagine. When we say that sociology is scientific, we mean that it is a way
of learning about the world that combines logically constructed theory and systematic observation.
The goal of sociological study and research is to base answers to questions like those above on a
careful examination of the roots of social phenomena such.

Emerging Adulthood
Emerging adulthood is a new conception of development that focuses on the period from 18 to 25 years. The understanding was developed by the scholars who believe that this time is special and unique. Late teens and early twenties are those two essential components of the period called emerging adulthood. In order to understand emerging adulthood, it is significant to focus on a theoretical background of emerging adulthood theory. Apart from this, it is significant to differentiate the period of emerging adulthood with adolescence and young adult hood. For ages, they treated this period as a time of transition into adulthood. It was the time when teenagers finished schools, entered colleges and universities, applied for jobs, and get married and have a family.
Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, the American scholar. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and spent three years for postdoctoral work at the University of Chicago. The researcher was interested in human development and family studies at the University of Missouri, but then he switched his attention to the age period from 18 to 25 years. For a decade, he works on research on emerging adulthood. Arnett did not limit his studies to America, but he also studied emerging adulthood in Denmark in 2005. He is well-informed in young people and adults. Because this is the most significant part of human life with its distinctive characteristics, Arnett is deeply convinced that emerging adulthood should distinguish from other periods of development.
The scholar shows the relations between emerging adulthood and social and economic changes that occurred during the last decades. By this Arnett means, emerging adulthood resulted from four revolutions of the second part of the 20th century: 1) technology revolution; 2) sexual revolution; 3) women’s movements; and 4) the modern movements (Arnett, 2015). Although all these scholars described a period of emerging adulthood, no one defined it as a separate period of life. According to Arnett, emerging adulthood should be distinguished from other terms of development, as it has its characteristics and peculiarities. For example, Arnett mentions “an important demographic characteristic of emerging adulthood is that there is a great deal of demographic variability, reflecting the wide scope of individual volition during these years” (Arnett, 2000).
Emerging adulthood has changed in America where in the past people grow up faster than nowadays because they took responsibilities earlier in the twenties. To explain the core change of emerging adulthood, Jeffery Arnett took our attention to particular social changes in industrialized countries. First, young people became more oriented to career and personal development than family life and parenthood. Unlike decades ago. Typically, adolescents eagerly anticipate their transitions to young adulthood. They look forward to supporting themselves financially, living independently, and making their own decisions. As young adults transition into middle adulthood, they will likely assume increased responsibilities. Zastrow and Kirst-Ashman (2013) state, "middle adulthood has been referred to as the prime time of life" (p. 441). Typically, adults at this stage have accumulated some satisfaction from their maturity and accomplishments.
Though young and middle adulthood may be exciting and significant times in the human life span, they also present unique challenges for the individual. This week, you begin your study of young and middle adulthood by considering its biological aspects. You explore health issues and changes in physical development during this period. You also consider how your understanding of these issues might influence your assessments of and interactions with individuals in this segment of the life span.

young and middle adulthood
to identify the life-span time period between age 18 and 65. This classification distinguishes this time in the life of an individual from childhood and adolescence and from the later years of adulthood.

Shannon Bailey, age 22, is a senior in college, majoring in English. She is nearing
graduation and is seeking a career focus. She realizes that a degree in English will
indicate to potential employers that she probably writes well. Yet she also knows that
an English major is not linked to professional positions the way a degree in engineer-
ing, for example, is linked to engineering positions. She is confused about what kind
of career she wants, and also what kind of career she is qualified for. To add to her
confusion, Eric Kim, whom she has been dating for three years and who is two years
older than she, proposed to her a week ago. He wants to get married in a year or two.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
