Adopting an IoT solution is not easy for a customer. Azure IoT Hub is great, powerful, but challenging to adopt. Why not evaluate Azure IoT Central as a starting point? As it is implemented on IoT Hub and all Azure IoT family of services, it can be a good starting point for a long term adoption to preserve the most of the initial effort. And then there is also IoT Plug and Play that give to all Azure IoT family the functional structure to be a great enterprise-grade solution.
Presentation of the Mainflulux team held In Portland at Embedded Linux Conference & OpenIoT Summit North America March 14 2018.
IoT middleware platforms have become necessary building blocks of every complex vertical IoT solution. Traditionally, the platforms have been built to run in the cloud; wide availability and rich capabilities have driven the first wave of IoT adoption. As the scale and complexity of IoT projects have grown, however, the need to provide solutions that move to process to the network edge has also grown. Down-scaling cloud capabilities is complex in part because of the more modest capabilities of edge computing in typical deployment models. As a result, there are few open solutions that address this need.
We introduce Mainflux (https://github.com/Mainflux/mainflux) - a IoT Platform for cloud and edge that can simultaneously scale-out to hundreds of nodes in the cloud but can also scale down to a modest RaspberryPi computer without changing a single line of code. This scalability is achieved thanks to careful architecture, the effectiveness of the Go programming language, and technology choices used in the implementation.
We will discuss the platform, its use and application, and our work to bring core concepts from it to various open source projects including EdgeX.

The MRAA and UPM Eclipse IoT Projects | Eclipse IoT Day Santa Clara 2019Eclipse IoT
With Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, sensors and actuators becoming more performant, smaller, and cheaper, new opportunities emerge for diverse applications in multiple domains such as smart homes and cities, industrial automation, healthcare and retail, environment and agriculture, transportation and safety, digital surveillance and security, control systems and robotics, wireless sensor networks, and many others. The IoT community is more vibrant than ever but with the incredible device diversity in this space, we also introduce a lot of complexity for the software developer. During recent years, Intel® established itself as a leader in IoT by releasing proven developer kits and software tools with select partners for a broad range of developer personas and skill levels. This presentation focuses primarily on the MRAA and UPM middleware projects which have been a part of the Intel IoT Developer Kits since day 1 and are now proudly joining the Eclipse IoT community. The MRAA library provides an abstraction layer for several Intel and non-Intel IoT platforms, offering C/C++, Java, JavaScript, and Python bindings to the physical pins and buses. This is subsequently used by the UPM sensor library for exposing standardized APIs intended to simplify the interaction between developers and peripherals, with virtually over 400 different specialized sensors, actuators and radio modules currently supported as part of the project.

This session will describe and demo methods to connect the Intel Edison to Amazon AWS in order to create a versatile IoT structure. The Intel Edison is a powerful system on chip module, the size of a postage stamp with powerful on board processing. It can be used as a sensor hub to gather data, a control board for actuators, and a gateway to connect to the cloud. When combined with the powerful services offered by AWS it can form the basis for many IoT solutions.
AWS DevDay San Francisco, June 21, 2016.
Presenter: Martin Kronberg, Intel oT Evengelist
The IoT is becoming extremely popular keyword in the industries while there are many different interpretations or various definitions. However, one common requirement is that it requires many Sensor devices connected to Linux devices. The user space drivers for GPIO, I2C/SPI and UART sensors in the past were implemented separately from scratch delicately for each product. This will cause significant challenge of software engineering overhead while GPIO, I2C/SPI and UART sensors are dramatically increasing which have to be supported. The IoTDK is one of the library to provide portability of sensors' driver to solve the situation.
The talk will includes guide of IoTDK and 96Boards and tutorial of programing I2C and GPIO devices. Targeted audiences are who are interested in IoT sensors or who would like to move from Arduino and Raspberry Pi to modern ARM CPU effectively.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
