THE MOUSETRAP
(2011)
A Slasher Film
Written by Hanan Mohamed
CONTENTS
OVERVIEW ________________________________________________________________3
OUTLINE ________________________________________________________________3
SYNOPSIS ________________________________________________________________3
SCOPE OF FILM ___________________________________________________________6
LENGTH, DISTRIBUTION & MEDIA ____________________________________________6
PRODUCTION ELEMENTS _____________________________________________________6
CAST LIST _______________________________________________________________6
SUBJECTS ________________________________________________________________7
OVERVIEW:
South London, 1997. He was an adolescent boy of 15 who had grown up there, and was teased at school for his acne and stench - bullied as school children will to those who are too quiet, to those different to them. He never had the courage to fight back though he wanted to, often secretly wishing a slow, bloody revenge on his classmates though he was too afraid to go through with it.
It happened when they were holidaying in Kent for the summer. He had an argument with his father, which started with him not washing the dishes, moving to her blaming him for his mother having walked out on them for the age of five ‘because who would ever want to be a mother to such an ugly little ****, you ruined it for me!’ and ending how it usually did with his beating him black and blue.
OUTLINE:
Beginning: Krissy’s camera is stolen; Kelly gets cut mysteriously and receives the introduction, the first steps of the Game.
Middle: The girls from fear play the game but one way or the other, they end up failing to complete their step and as a consequence all of them are killed (and caught on camera); one by one, brutal and slow.
End: Final Girl Tavy at last feeling safe has come in a circle right back toe the clearing in the beginning of the day where it all began – now, it’s her turn.
Note: what is endgame? Vengeance? Punishment for something they did in the past? Simply to make a snuff film to put online?SYNOPSIS:
In England 1997 in the village of Ash, Sevenoaks, Kent an adolescent boy who was socially awkward, bullied by his peers summer camp fancied Krissy wanted to be with her he asked her out they all laughed at him horribly turned him down he wanted to impress her he would have done anything absolutely anything for her so they made him take a walk along the brick wall next to the river laughing saying oh look, look at him how he’s so brave but they were mocking him really although he didn’t realise it they were jeering at him and then they threw a crisp packet at him and it was enough to make him lose his balance startled he looked up and tried to duck, but he lost it and he went over the side and they freaked and ran screaming his name but he couldn’t swim nobody knew that and the river was too deep surely they would have all died if they had tried to go in and save him and he drowned that’s the hard part of it all, they all just had t o stay and watch him drown his only witnesses nobody ever knew about that nobody ever found out they burned that crisp packet nobody knew the guilt it has stayed with them all this time but now somehow somebody knows
The boy’s father, psychotic, the man who used to beat him before he found that somebody else beat him to killing his own son the pleasure should have been his and so for this he shall punish them; vengeance, jealousy, perversion as they’re so pretty, and some sick kind of twisted sense of honour out of that and for that, he shall kill them. And have his fun while doing it, too.
LONDON, PRESENT TIME
A group of five schoolgirls named Krissy Richards, Anna Thomas, Kelly James, Joanna Mathews and Octavia King are leaving school. It is the last day of term and they are all excited about the half term break as they gossip, sing, dance and run down the streets. Krissy’s attention turns from the gossip to a forest nearby the school.
Looks as though there is no hope.
That night Anna. She expresses her guilt in not having convinced Krissy. As she is writing the wind outside is loud and distracts her. We see a shadow pass behind her. It is Krissy, shaking and scared and following the rules of the game because she ahs no other choice because this is what the events of the night ahs led up to because this is how in pain and frightened and torn and well that the man has manipulated them that she is lunging forward to kill one of her best friends – or else, she’ll be next. Sick and come seeking revenge on Anna? Anna is shocked and afraid at seeing Krissy again but before she gets a chance to scream Krissy has already wrapped a skipping rope around her throat. Winding it several times, the rope only clutches at her tighter, choking her, the blood vessels in her eyes bursting as she scrabbles at the rope but fails and you watch the light in her eyes fade as she dies.
Kelly. She’s become less superficial – she’s worried, nervous a lot. Whilst doing her hair in the eye mirror she sees a shadow similar to the very first she saw the beginning of the day when this whole thing started but nobody would believe her when she broke the first rule of the game. Alarmed, Kelly tries to run the toilets and we see two dirty hands come from behind her closing around her neck. They are a man’s thick strong hands and not ones she recognizes - one hand stuffed in her mouth as a gag, she digs her nails deep within the skin and rips Kelly’s face off as the girl is starting to choke from lack of air. She is slammed into the tree so forceful that it impales her on the lowest branch, which is split in two – and both ends come out of her. She is left there, hanging, bloody, mouth pen and open eyed while the blood starts to seep slowly from her torso.
We should bury them guys we should its not respectful its not right leaving like them what and let him find us like that vulnerable kill us too no we have to follow the rules w have to finish the game we cant there is no other way nothing nothing we can do
Everyone on edge. She thought she head Krissy call out to her, and Joanna surprised and glad to believe that she was alive wandered out into the road calling for her; when Krissy ran her over. Again, and again, and again till there was nothing left but a mangled mess of what used to be a body scattered on the street.
The police could find no driver.
Not car but tractor perhaps? A farmer’s truck a tractor country truck? Check this.
Octavia is the last one standing; the final girl. It is almost daylight, the burning embers of the sun rising and she is near the end of the woods she is almost out the road isn’t far from there this would be open space no more trees no more shadow she is almost free. She moves nervous quiet shaking but happy glad ecstatic almost enough to start laughing maniacally but she cant not when she’s come this close so far. A certain unsettling feeling surrounding her, the atmosphere fast becoming hostile. Without realising the number of trees around her growing yet again she realises that they all look the same no more markings – she has been going around in circles all this time when she thought that she was almost out of here. She will never leave. Panicking It doesn’t feel safe here at all and she attempts to make her way back out but she’s gone in too far and she’s lost. Frantic, she runs around trying to find any exit but only manages to go deeper into the forest.
She will never leave.
Despair. Desperation.
Although Tavy doesn’t see, looking down into the ground crying, we see a familiar shadow fall over her...
SCOPE OF FILM
Establishes the sense of voyeurism, tracking, hunting of the killer’s mindset from the stolen handheld camera and the sick sense of humour in initiating the gory game for the girls to play – they who have no choice.
Creates an uneasy suspense for the audience as the game is played, to wonder who will be next to die and who will live, and a sense of horror at the extravagance of brutality with which each girl is killed.
Portrays a sense of irony in the black humour of the last girl Tavy who thought she’d got away only running back to the story’s beginning, and the story comes full circle.LENGTH, DISTRIBUTION & MEDIA
Target Length: a target length of 90 minutes on DVD, not including outtakes and extras.
Distribution: Frightfest, Screamfest LA, Mayhem Horror Fest and the NYCHorrorfest festivals on CD with a separate version available online compressed for web streaming.
Video: MiniDV, will also be used to take digital stills of the film; the film will be edited in iMovie.
