He was an adolescent boy of 15 who had grown up there, and was teased at school for his acne and stench - bullied as school children will to those who are too quiet, to those different to them. He never had the courage to fight back though he wanted to, often secretly wishing a slow, bloody revenge on his classmates though he was too afraid to go through with it.
It happened when they were holidaying in Kent for the summer. He had an argument with his mother, which started with him not washing the dishes, moving to her blaming him for his father having walked out on them for the age of five ‘because who would ever want to be a father to such an ugly little ****, you ruined it for me!’ and ending how it usually did with her beating him black and blue. Years of frustration with her continuously taunting him and blaming him for why her life hadn’t turned out right, he went into a blind rage and fought back for the first time. He overpowered her and beat her in turn, and focusing all of his anger and despair at her ended up beating her to death. Afterwards, all of that rage had quietened but it didn’t leave him but the difference was that he now had a dead body to deal with. Numbed by what he had done, he waited until nightfall before dragging her body to the forest and burying her there where nobody would find her.
He found that the pain didn’t end with his mother’s death; and knowing the police would be looking for her killer he knew he had to disappear. Heavy with guilt and confused in the aftermath he went back home alone to London, but it didn’t take long before he realised it was only a matter of time before they found him. His desperation and despair peaked to the point where he decided to finally carry out his intention to end his life, feeling no joy in living any more. He hung himself in his room. There was no suicide note and his mother was never found – after some time the search for her was given up. She was officially missing, presumed dead and his death was known to be a tragic incident.
But it didn’t stop there.
The pain would not end with his death, nor the fury. Imprisoned on earth by his guilt, without a body to anchor to his temper was only amplified and his spirit left to roam restlessly searching for revenge, redemption, anything as a way to quench his anger.
Later, it is in these same forests that in life he spent time hiding in and in death that his spirit stumbles across an attractive, brave young girl. She had disturbed him with her loud gossiping and caught his attention, and envying her – having everything that he could never have again, beauty, popularity, a healthy normal life – he possessed her. The spirit drives her insane, drawing her out to kill all of her previous four previous friends who she believed in her paranoia to have betrayed and abandoned her when she was attacked by the spirit.
OUTLINE:
,[object Object]
Middle: She stalks and kills her friends’ one by one, brutal and slow.
End: The mother of the remaining girl Octavia moves her family away to Kent for work. Once Tavy arrives in Kent, at last feeling safe she takes a walk on a quiet street to the woods and gets infected. SYNOPSIS:
In England 1997 in the small village of Ash, Sevenoaks, an adolescent boy who was socially awkward, bullied by his peers and abused by his mother got into an argument with his mother and beat her to death. Consumed with guilt he buried her in a forest and returned to their home in London where he hung himself. The violent nature of his death and the vents led up to it meant that he could not die a true death and his spirit was forced to remain on earth, and has been roaming ever since looking for a way to leave, angry – until a certain young girl caught its attention.
LONDON, PRESENT TIME
A group of five schoolgirls named Krissy Richards, Anna Thomas, Kelly James, Joanna Mathews and Octavia King are leaving school. It is the last day of term and they are all excited about the half term break as they gossip, sing, dance and run down the streets. Krissy’s attention turns from the gossip to a forest nearby the school.
She knows she’s not allowed in there but she can’t resist. She’s excited and wants to try something daring and suggests to her friends that they should all go through the forest, Anna, who is the most timid, is completely against it, tries to persuade the others it’s a bad idea and attempts to talk Krissy out of it. Krissy has other ideas and runs in alone, causing Anna as her best friend to run in after her to try and bring her back. The others follow as they want to stick together.
When they arrive in the forest Krissy is nowhere to be seen. They all call out her name, listening for a response. Kelly claims to have seen a shadow in the bushes but before she can even grasp what’s happened there is an unnatural scream which terrifies them - the girls disperse in different directions.
It’s been a few weeks and Krissy Richards still hasn’t been found. The four girls only decide to discuss discretely what they think happened in the forest that night. They all meet up one Friday and walk past the forest where Krissy had gone missing. It’s flooded with news reporters and forensic scientists looking for clues but it looks as though there is no hope.
That night Anna sits alone in her bedroom writing a letter. She expresses her guilt in not having convinced Krissy not to go into the forest. As she is writing the wind outside is loud and distracts her. She gets up to close her window and we see a shadow pass behind her. It is Krissy, sick and come seeking revenge on Anna for running away and not going back into the bushes to save her. Anna is bewildered, shocked and afraid at seeing Krissy again but before she gets a chance to scream Krissy has already wrapped a skipping rope around her throat. Winding it several times, the rope only clutches at her tighter, choking her, the blood vessels in her eyes bursting as she scrabbles at the rope but fails and you watch the light in her eyes fade as she dies. When Anna’s body is found in her room the death is taken as a suicide along with her letter, and isn’t investigated any further.
One week later the remaining girls, devastated, finally return to school. Everybody is full of condolences for them but they keep to themselves and stick together at all times. Kelly goes alone to the bathroom; everyone’s thought her quite strange since Krissy’s disappearance and Anna’s death. She’s become less superficial – she’s worried, nervous a lot. Whilst doing her hair in the mirror she sees a shadow similar to the one she saw in the forest behind her but when she turns around, there is nothing there. Then she turns back to the mirror, the words ‘You never cared’ is scrawled across in blood.
Alarmed, Kelly tries to leave the toilets but the door is locked and we see two dirty hands come from behind her closing around her neck. They are Krissy’s hands but they aren’t at the same time and one hand stuffed in her mouth as a gag, she digs her nails deep within the skin and rips Kelly’s face off as the girl is starting to choke from lack of air. Krissy slams her into the mirror so forceful that it shatters all around the point of impact with Kelly’s head – and that is when she kills her, using a large glass shard to stab at her repeatedly in her chest and stomach. This frightens all of the students, police are everywhere investigating with interviews and brushing for DNA but it isn’t enough to keep the school from being closed for the time being until further notice.
Joanna goes over to Octavia’s home to have some fun and keep their spirits up after the death of their friends. Joanna had recently been telling her mother how ashamed she was about the fact that she hadn’t stayed in the forest to help Krissy, wishing she could go back to the forest to help look for Krissy’s body, that she had gone to the bathroom with Kelly when she had asked her to come and if she had maybe Kelly would still be alive today. Everybody’s been afraid since Kelly’s death that the killer would strike again, leaving everyone on edge. The girls are having fun for the first time in a long time, and Joanna is enjoying herself at Octavia’s but it’s getting dark and she realises she has to go home. She leaves Octavia’s house at 8pm but never arrives home. Krissy called out to her, and Joanna surprised and glad to believe that she was alive wandered out into the road calling for her; when Krissy ran her over. Again, and again, and again till there was nothing left but a mangled mess of what used to be a body scattered on the street.
The police could find no driver.
Octavia is the last one standing. Resenting all that has happened with her friends, Octavia becomes a recluse. She spends most of her time with her mother and pet turtles, terrified of leaving the house. Looking for a fresh start and somewhere away from the danger, her mother Vicky takes a higher paying job elsewhere and taking her daughter Octavia with her move six months later to Kent, England. One afternoon Vicky suggests that Octavia goes into town, meet people and try to make new friends. Octavia is apprehensive but decides a walk might clear her head, and besides she feels safer here – she left all of the bad things, killer and all, back in London. This was a small town where everyone knew each other, it would be perfectly safe.
She strolls through the town watching the busy roads and eventually she ends up following along a quiet street. It leads through what looks like a a park so Octavia goes into it. Walking through the park she notices a certain unsettling feeling surrounding her, the atmosphere fast becoming hostile. Without realising the growing number of trees around her she’s accidentally walked right into another forest, just like the one where it all began. It doesn’t feel safe here at all and she attempts to make her way back out but she’s gone in too far and she’s lost. Frantic, she runs around trying to find any exit but only manages to go deeper into the forest.
She has walked right onto the spot where the boy’s mother is buried. Here, the centre of the dark energy where everything all began and although Tavy doesn’t see, looking down into the ground crying, we see a familiar shadow fall over her...
SCOPE OF FILM
,[object Object]
Creates an uneasy suspense for the audience to wonder who will be next to die and who will live, and a sense of horror at the extravagance of brutality with which each girl is killed.
Portrays a sense of irony in the black humour of the last girl Tavy who thought she’d got away only running back to the spirit’s origin, and the story comes full circle leaving it open ended for the audience’s imagination of where, if ever, it will end.LENGTH, DISTRIBUTION & MEDIA
,[object Object]

The most important thing to Krissy is her best friend Anna who goes everywhere with her - the two are absolutely inseparable. She is also very close to Octavia who she feels very protective over. Krissy lives for the moment and does as she pleases, trying daring things each day. She’s the most excitable of the group and will often make something out of nothing just to liven things up.Krissy is the main role in this film. On the last day of term her and her friends are messing around gossiping and playing on their way home. Krissy’s daredevil attitude begins to shine when she suggests her friends take a short cut home through a forest. Krissy leaves the indecisive group and enters alone. When she does she is attacked by the boy’s angry spirit who makes her feel extreme paranoia, gives her irrational rage and panic attacks, and has detrimental effects on the brain causing her to slowly lose your mind. She takes revenge on her friends who instead of trying to find her, flee. She kill them all, each in a different and torturous way – and only one escapes her.Anna ThomasAnna is also 14 years old (youngest) and attends Westbrook High with her best friend Krissy. Anna is timid; she used to get bullied a lot in her previous school hence the bashful side of her. She never thinks anything risky is a good idea as it could be dangerous and is very conservative, particularly in comparison to Krissy. She comes out of her shell a bit whilst with her friends but there is always that quiet side to her. When reckless best friend Krissy suggests they take a cut through a forest, Anna is completely against the idea; however she is the first to run after Krissy when she decides to go in alone. Anna is the first to get killed by Krissy as Krissy, in her confusion, feels betrayed the most by Anna.Kelly JamesKelly is a fashion conscious teenager who is the eldest out of the group at 15. Her obsession with models overtakes her care for her school work and attitude. She met the girls whilst doing her hair in the bathroom. At that time she only knew Anna and Krissy. She is an only child and is very selfish. All she’s concerned with is getting her hair and makeup right for the day. She enjoys spending most time with Octavia as she likes her dress sense, though of course she spends more time with her reflection. Kelly disregards Krissy’s reckless behaviour and continues fixing her hair in the mirror. She is the last to go into the forest as she is unaware of what is happening but she is the first to run out when she hears Krissy’s scream. Joanna MathewsJoanna (14) is the mother figure of the group. She makes sure everybody does what they’re meant to and takes authority. She is usually listened to but occasionally gets ignored by the girls who mistake her care for them as bossiness.Joanna tries to plan a heroic rescue when the four girls look for Krissy but as soon as the scream is heard she too is frightened and runs her separate way.Octavia King Octavia (newly 15, aka ‘Tavy’) is the strangest out of the group. She enjoys weird and wonderful things and aspires to become a medium. Tavy’s mum works in the travel industry as a holiday rep which means they often have to move a lot. Octavia has 6 pet turtles and enjoys speaking about them. Frequently. Her friends love her sense of things going wrong as they all use it to keep out of trouble - but can she predict it all?Tavy is the quietest one when it comes to going into the woods. Unlike the others she only gasps quietly when she hears the unworldly scream. She seems to be the bravest out of them all but she remains quietest. Octavia’s frequent holidays mean that she does not get killed by the possessed Krissy, and leaves the city; only to find that she gets attacked by the spirit the virus near her new home, having inadvertently moved near the area where it all began.
