Percona and Continuent present: Multi-Data Center MySQL with Continuent TungstenContinuent
Many users are challenged with how to setup multi-master, multi-site MySQL clusters. How to do you go from a single database server to a scalable cluster? Or move from a brittle MySQL replication system to a transparent, manageable database cluster? In this joint webinar with Continuent, Percona examines how Continuent Tungsten addresses these problems.
First, we discuss the read-write splitting functionality of the Tungsten Connector. Next, we demonstrate the multi-data center capabilities of Continuent Tungsten. We set up a total of 9 cluster nodes in 3 different data centers and demonstrate various failure scenarios, while traffic is running:
- One of the nodes goes down
- Two of the nodes go down
- One of the data centers goes down
- Two of the data centers go down
At the end of this webinar you will know how to quickly configure and provision highly optimized Continuent Tungsten deployments in the cloud or on-premises.
Presenters:
- Peter Boros, Consultant, Percona
- Robert Hodges, CEO, Continuent

XenServer Virtualization In Cloud EnvironmentsTim Mackey
= As presented at the CloudStack Silicon Valley Meetup in September 2015. =
XenServer is a virtualization platform which has been deployed in a variety of industries and to support a multitude of workloads. In this session we discuss some of the components which make it valuable not just for traditional server and desktop virtualization, but also within "the cloud". This includes discussion of VM density, network scalability, containers (such as Docker) and GPU virtualization. We end with coverage of how XenServer templates are represented within Apache CloudStack.
CloudStack comes with a built-in SDN controller. One way of implementing SDN is to build overlay networks in the Data Center. This slideshow explains how CloudStack builds and maintains GRE tunnel overlays to provide scalable multi-tenant networking for cloud deployments
This presentation is the introduction to the monthly CloudStack.org demonstration. The presentation details the latest features in the CloudStack open source project as well as project news. To attend a future presentation, with live demo and Q&A visit:

Approaches to enable the OSPF protocol in Apache CloudStackMarco Sinhoreli
OSPF is a routing protocol for Internet Protocol networks. It uses a link state routing algorithm and falls into the group of interior routing protocols, operating within a single autonomous system. Compared with RIP, OSPF can provide scalable network support and faster convergence times. OSPF is widely used in large networks such as ISP backbones and enterprise networks.
Considering that in large organizations where the end-to-end access is a requirement, the current VPC model brings more complexity to management and hands-on configuration beside the overhead involved in the NAT address translations processing.
This presentation will bring some possibles approaches to enable dynamic routing using the OSPF protocol for IPv4 and IPv6 and simplify the network administrator life safely and quickly.

Serverless a superpower for frontend developersYan Cui
We'll look at some common mistakes JavaScript Developers make when they move to serverless and debunk misconceptions about Lambda performance and cold starts. We will also offer tips for optimizing your functions, and how best to test and deploy them using CI/CD best practices.
In this talk we debunk common myths and misconceptions about serverless - how cold starts works, serverless is not just about saving operational cost, think about control with responsibility, and think about vendor lock-in with the reward.
The growth of the public cloud market is obvious to everyone. But what’s less well known is that enterprises are still growing the infrastructure and services they run for themselves. A common reason cited for the continual growth in private cloud rather than adopting public cloud offerings are concerns about being locked in to a specific vendor. This talk analyses the concerns about vendor lock-in with respect to the adoption of public cloud. Sam will share with you not only whether or not the concerns of lock-in have merit in the real world, but will also present some tools you can use to help your own thinking in this regard.

Lock That Shit Down! Auth Security Patterns for Apps, APIs, and Infra - Joker...Matt Raible
In this session, you'll learn about recommended patterns for securing your backend APIs, the infrastructure they run on, and your SPAs and mobile apps.
The world is no longer a place where you just need to secure your apps’ UI. You need to pay attention to your dependency pipeline and open-source frameworks, too. Once you have the app built, with secure-by-design code, what about the cloud it runs on? Are the servers secure? What about the accounts you use to access them?
If you lock all that sh*t down, how do you codify your solution so you can transport it cloud-to-cloud, or back to on-premises? This session will explore these concepts and many more!

In this session, we will take a look at what we need to keep on our radar when we start a new project inside the Cloud. When not only us but also clients are new to the Cloud ecosystem, we need to be aware of small things that can make a difference or secure the success of the project. Things like security, environment isolation and access controls are just a tiny part of the things that we need be aware. There will be examples from real life projects and hands-on implementations inside Microsoft Azure. After joining this session, you will have an initial view on what things we shall be aware when we start a new project inside the Cloud.
In this session, we'll talk about why Frontend Developers should care about serverless and how it gives frontend-focused teams the superpower to build scalable backend for their applications without all the traditional overhead of managing the infrastructure themselves.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
