11. Cataloging Cultural Objects: A Guide to Describing
Cultural Works and Their Images (CCO) is a
published manual for describing, documenting,
and cataloging cultural works and their visual
surrogates. The primaryfocus of CCO is art and
architecture, including but not limited to
paintings, sculpture, prints, manuscripts,
photographs, built works, installations, and other
visual media. CCO also covers many other types
of cultural works, including archaeological sites,
artifacts, and functional objects from the realm
of material culture.

12. The Art & ArchitectureThesaurus (AAT) is
a controlled vocabulary used for
describing items of art, architecture, and
material culture. The AAT contains
generic terms, such as "cathedral," but no
proper names, such as "Cathedral of
Notre Dame.” The AAT is a structured
vocabulary of around 44,000 concepts,
including 131,000 terms, descriptions,
bibliographic citations, and other
information relating to fine art,
architecture, decorative arts, archival
materials, and material culture.
