The kingdom of Bahrain

Location of Bahrain 
•Bahrain is located in the 
Arabian gulf which is in the 
middle east. The middle east is 
in the continent of Asia. Bahrain 
is an island so there are no 
countries that Border it . Some 
of the places near it are Saudi 
Arabia,Qattar Kuwait and U.A.E. 
There is a bridge connecting 
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. There 
will also be a bridge connecting 
Qatar and Bahrain and it will be 
the longest link between two 
countries.
History 
•Before Bahrain was an 
Arab Muslim country, it 
was ruled and influenced 
by the Babylonians , 
Assyrians, Greek, and 
Persians. 
•In 629AD (4 years before 
Prophet Muhammad’s 
death), Bahrain was 
brought to Islam. 
•In 1743, Persian King 
Afsharid seized Bahrain 
after a struggle with the 
Portuguese.
• The al-Khalifa family conquered Bahrain from the Persians in 
the late 18th century. 
• In 1932, the British discovered oil in Bahrain while they were 
inspecting the island. 
• The present king Hamad Ibn Isa Al-Khalifah succeeded his 
father in 1999.beside other developments during his rule 
Women were given the right to vote and all political leaders 
were released from prison. 
• Bahrain Became a kingdom in 2002.
Summary of Bahrain History
Geography 
•Bahrain is a generally flat 
and arid archipelago. The 
highest point in Bahrain is 
the 134m(440ft) Jabal ad 
Dukhan. It has a total of 
668km squared and it is 
made up of 33 islands. 
Bahrain has a total of 
668km squared and 266mi 
squared. Bahrain consists of 
33 island and it does not 
share it’s borders with any 
other country. Area of a 
country is 665 square km . 
Capital is Manama.
Climate 
•The normal climate and 
temperature is sunny, warm 
and humid. 
•Summer in Bahrain are hot and 
humid, and winters are 
relatively cool. Daily average 
temperature in July range from 
a minimum of 290c to a 
maximum of 370c , the Jan 
minimum is 140c and maximum 
is 200c. 
•Rainfall average less than 10cm 
annually and occur mostly from 
Dec to March. Prevailing 
southeast winds occasionally 
raise dust storm.
Environment 
•Scarcity of fresh water, 
desertification, and pollution 
from oil production, population 
growth and industrial 
development have reduced the 
amount of agricultural land and 
lower the water table, leaving 
aquifer vulnerable to saline 
contamination. In recent years 
the government has attempted 
to limit extraction of 
groundwater and to protect 
vegetation from further erosion.
Population 
•according to various media reports 
and government statistics dated 
between 2005-2009 the Bahrain’s 
population consists of 
Bahraini 46.0% 
Other Arabs 5.4% 
African 1.6% 
American 0.4 
Asian 45.6% 
European 1.0% 
•The variety of different 
nationalities residing In Bahrain live 
peacefully and show their gratitude 
towards the Kingdom especially by 
celebrating the independence day 
and events like Thank You Bahrain.
Culture 
•Bahrain exhibits a mixed 
culture having a combination 
of modern and Islamic values. 
Rules regarding female attire 
are generally relaxed. The 
traditional attire of women 
usually include the hijab or 
the abaya, although the 
traditional male attire is the 
thobe which also includes 
traditional headdresses such 
as Ghutra , Western clothing 
is also common in the 
country.
Economy 
•In Bahrain petroleum production 
is the most important resource. It 
is 60% of the exports, 60% of the 
government revenues and 30% of 
the country’s GDP. Bahrain’s 
natural resources include very 
large amount of oil, natural gas 
and fish. Arable land represent 
only 2.82% of the total area. 
Deserts represents 92% of Bahrain. 
In 2004, Bahrain signed the US-Bahrain 
Free Trade Agreement. 
That means the trade between the 
two countries will be easier.
Education 
•Education is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 
and 14. Education is free for Bahraini citizens in public schools, 
with the Bahraini Ministry of Education providing free 
textbooks. Coeducation is not used in public schools, with 
boys and girls segregated in 
•At the beginning of the 20th century, Qur'anic schools 
(Kuttab) were the only form of education in Bahrain. They 
were traditional schools aimed at teaching children and youth 
the reading of the Qur'an. After World War I, Bahrain became 
open to western influence, and a demand for modern 
educational institutions appeared to separate schools.
Health 
•Bahrain has a universal health care system, 
dating back to 1960.Government-provided 
health care is free to Bahraini citizens and 
heavily subsidized for non-Bahrainis. 
Bahraini physicians and nurses form a 
majority of the country's workforce in the 
health sector. The first hospital in Bahrain 
was the American Mission Hospital, which 
opened in 1893 as a dispensary. The first 
public hospital, to open in Bahrain was the 
Salmaniya Medical Complex, in the 
Salmaniya district of Manama, in 
1957.Private hospitals are also present 
throughout the country. The life expectancy 
in Bahrain is 73 for males and 76 for 
females. The Ministry of Health sponsors 
regular vaccination campaigns against TB 
and other diseases such as hepatitis B
music 
•The music style in Bahrain is 
similar to that of its neighbors. 
The khaliji style of music, which 
is folk music, is popular in the 
country. The sawt style of music, 
which involves a complex form of 
urban music, performed by an 
oud(plucked lute), a violin and 
mirwas(a drum),is also popular 
in Bahrain. Ali Baharwas one of 
the most famous singer in 
Bahrain. He performed his music 
with his Band Al-Ekhwa (The 
Brothers). Bahrain was also the 
site of the first recording studio 
amongst the Persian Gulf states.
Holidays 
•On 1 September 
2006, Bahrain 
changed its 
weekend from 
being Thursdays 
and Fridays to 
Fridays and 
Saturdays, in order 
to have a day of 
the weekend 
shared with the 
rest of the world.
Language 
•Arabic is the official language of Bahrain, though 
English is widely used. Bahrani Arabic is the most 
widely spoken dialect of the Arabic language, though 
this differs slightly from standard Arabic 
• Among the Bahraini and non-Bahraini population, 
many people speak Persian, Urdu, Malayalam, Hindi 
and Nepali are also widely spoken in the Nepalese 
workers and Gurkha Soldiers community. Many 
commercial institutions and road signs are bilingual, 
displaying both English and Arabic.

  • 2. Location of Bahrain •Bahrain is located in the Arabian gulf which is in the middle east. The middle east is in the continent of Asia. Bahrain is an island so there are no countries that Border it . Some of the places near it are Saudi Arabia,Qattar Kuwait and U.A.E. There is a bridge connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. There will also be a bridge connecting Qatar and Bahrain and it will be the longest link between two countries.

History •Before Bahrain was an Arab Muslim country, it was ruled and influenced by the Babylonians , Assyrians, Greek, and Persians. •In 629AD (4 years before Prophet Muhammad’s death), Bahrain was brought to Islam. •In 1743, Persian King Afsharid seized Bahrain after a struggle with the Portuguese.
  • 4. • The al-Khalifa family conquered Bahrain from the Persians in the late 18th century. • In 1932, the British discovered oil in Bahrain while they were inspecting the island. • The present king Hamad Ibn Isa Al-Khalifah succeeded his father in 1999.beside other developments during his rule Women were given the right to vote and all political leaders were released from prison. • Bahrain Became a kingdom in 2002.
  • 6. Geography •Bahrain is a generally flat and arid archipelago. The highest point in Bahrain is the 134m(440ft) Jabal ad Dukhan. It has a total of 668km squared and it is made up of 33 islands. Bahrain has a total of 668km squared and 266mi squared. Bahrain consists of 33 island and it does not share it’s borders with any other country. Area of a country is 665 square km . Capital is Manama.
  • 7. Climate •The normal climate and temperature is sunny, warm and humid. •Summer in Bahrain are hot and humid, and winters are relatively cool. Daily average temperature in July range from a minimum of 290c to a maximum of 370c , the Jan minimum is 140c and maximum is 200c. •Rainfall average less than 10cm annually and occur mostly from Dec to March. Prevailing southeast winds occasionally raise dust storm.

Environment •Scarcity of fresh water, desertification, and pollution from oil production, population growth and industrial development have reduced the amount of agricultural land and lower the water table, leaving aquifer vulnerable to saline contamination. In recent years the government has attempted to limit extraction of groundwater and to protect vegetation from further erosion.

Population •according to various media reports and government statistics dated between 2005-2009 the Bahrain’s population consists of Bahraini 46.0% Other Arabs 5.4% African 1.6% American 0.4 Asian 45.6% European 1.0% •The variety of different nationalities residing In Bahrain live peacefully and show their gratitude towards the Kingdom especially by celebrating the independence day and events like Thank You Bahrain.
  • 10. Culture •Bahrain exhibits a mixed culture having a combination of modern and Islamic values. Rules regarding female attire are generally relaxed. The traditional attire of women usually include the hijab or the abaya, although the traditional male attire is the thobe which also includes traditional headdresses such as Ghutra , Western clothing is also common in the country.
  • 11. Economy •In Bahrain petroleum production is the most important resource. It is 60% of the exports, 60% of the government revenues and 30% of the country’s GDP. Bahrain’s natural resources include very large amount of oil, natural gas and fish. Arable land represent only 2.82% of the total area. Deserts represents 92% of Bahrain. In 2004, Bahrain signed the US-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement. That means the trade between the two countries will be easier.
  • 12. Education •Education is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 14. Education is free for Bahraini citizens in public schools, with the Bahraini Ministry of Education providing free textbooks. Coeducation is not used in public schools, with boys and girls segregated in •At the beginning of the 20th century, Qur'anic schools (Kuttab) were the only form of education in Bahrain. They were traditional schools aimed at teaching children and youth the reading of the Qur'an. After World War I, Bahrain became open to western influence, and a demand for modern educational institutions appeared to separate schools.
  • 13. Health •Bahrain has a universal health care system, dating back to 1960.Government-provided health care is free to Bahraini citizens and heavily subsidized for non-Bahrainis. Bahraini physicians and nurses form a majority of the country's workforce in the health sector. The first hospital in Bahrain was the American Mission Hospital, which opened in 1893 as a dispensary. The first public hospital, to open in Bahrain was the Salmaniya Medical Complex, in the Salmaniya district of Manama, in 1957.Private hospitals are also present throughout the country. The life expectancy in Bahrain is 73 for males and 76 for females. The Ministry of Health sponsors regular vaccination campaigns against TB and other diseases such as hepatitis B
  • 14. music •The music style in Bahrain is similar to that of its neighbors. The khaliji style of music, which is folk music, is popular in the country. The sawt style of music, which involves a complex form of urban music, performed by an oud(plucked lute), a violin and mirwas(a drum),is also popular in Bahrain. Ali Baharwas one of the most famous singer in Bahrain. He performed his music with his Band Al-Ekhwa (The Brothers). Bahrain was also the site of the first recording studio amongst the Persian Gulf states.
  • 15. Holidays •On 1 September 2006, Bahrain changed its weekend from being Thursdays and Fridays to Fridays and Saturdays, in order to have a day of the weekend shared with the rest of the world.
  • 16. Language •Arabic is the official language of Bahrain, though English is widely used. Bahrani Arabic is the most widely spoken dialect of the Arabic language, though this differs slightly from standard Arabic • Among the Bahraini and non-Bahraini population, many people speak Persian, Urdu, Malayalam, Hindi and Nepali are also widely spoken in the Nepalese workers and Gurkha Soldiers community. Many commercial institutions and road signs are bilingual, displaying both English and Arabic.
