3. INTRODUCTION
According to Kwon (2018) Korean drama or K-drama refers to televised Dramas in
Korean language, made in South Korea, mostly in the miniseries format, with distinctive
features that set it apart from regular Western television series or soap operas. Korean
dramas can be set in contemporary times or in historical settings, the Korean word for the
latter being “sageuk”. “Sageuk” in English literature it usually refers to historical films and
television series. Different genres apply to these two types, from romantic comedies and
action series to fusion signs fiction dramas, South Korea started to broadcast television
series in the 1960s, transforming traditional historical series to this format, as well, creating
the notion of “fusion sageuks”. Deurama” or Drama means a television drama or a soap
Opera.
4. Based on our observation in Oleras National High School, Korean Dramas
is also seen as one of the factors that influence student’s lifestyle and behavior.
According to one of the students that we interview in grade 12, they always
watched K-dramas to relived their stress and it makes them focus in their study.
5. Over the years, the Korean wave has swept throughout the Philippine media industry.
Every day we can see a lot of Korean dramas aired on television. Even in social media, its
rapid spread made it even more popular. Most common Korean dramas that we often see
are all about romantic dramas, sometimes with a twist of action and comedy. Moreover,
Korean dramas are no different from other teledramas. But what gives Korean dramas
more interesting to watch is that, it only contains 16 to 20 episodes. Airing on televisions,
many of the viewers are entertained on how the story of each Korean drama gives them
what we so call “kilig factor”
6. Korean dramas over the Philippines became such a phenomenon. Lots of different
media such as online site offering K-dramas, DVD’s, from television and sometimes we
can just ask a friend for a copy of such series and etc., has been used by the people just to
watch K-dramas. Many slowly become addicted and got crazy over watching it. It seemed
to hypnotize them. Since, then, when Korean dramas made a hit, many of the Filipino
viewers especially the teenagers of today’s prefer to watch Korean dramas over any other
teledramas. In this generation, Filipino teenagers are more engaged in watching Korean
Dramas. It caught the teens’ attention by its theme, story, the characters and even the
soundtrack in which by these could have a great impact and influence on the Filipino
teenagers’ lifestyle and behavior. As a result, many Filipino teenagers nowadays tend to
sacrifice their time to sleep, foods, communication, family bonding and school stuff just to
watch Korean dramas, (Porlares et al., 2021)
7. Based on our observation in Oleras National High School, Korean
Dramas is also seen as one of the factors that influence student’s lifestyle
and behavior. According to one of the students that we interview in grade
12, they always watched K-dramas to relived their stress and it makes
them focus in their study.
