2. • Throughout the intro sequence, there are slow cuts, and a slow-pace is adapted, creating an almost unsettling
feeling of strange, suspicious auras. This also builds a sense of anticipation and suspense.
• The transitions throughout, slowly reveal the characters/cast by panning and zooming into their framed pictures,
using a variety of passages to present different characters.
• The fading transitions of the framed portraits (special effects used) present the disturbing sight of the fading and
altering faces of the characters, changing into deadly figures with carved features (resembling corpses). This
imagery both hints at themes in the show, but also set the mood of the horror and supernatural.
• The edited lighting flickers of the lamps further support the eerie, sinister, ghostly, abnormal theme of the show. The
effect of the lamps emanating light instead of the sun (low-key lighting) is to illustrate a sense of enclosing space;
the (what appears to be) mansion works as entrapment for the characters.
• The final effect of images slowly fading (last frame fades into black slowly), then conclusively transition to the title
'Haunting of Bly Manor'-
• The slow-paces transitions to characters being introduced through the framed pictures- very repetitive style for all of
them, not revealing their personas from the beginning, but merely hinting.

3. • -The stable camera and slow-paced cuts establish a mysterious and eerie atmosphere, but their repetitive nature
(always slow) keeps the audience curious and alert for anything out of the formed pattern of steady pace.
• The pan shots introducing framed pictures slowly reveal the locations of the figures in the paintings, giving a good
view of each character (all in a mysterious manner).
• The slow camera movement also really focuses on the characters shown to get the audience comfortable and
aware of the characters, even without knowing their roles.
• Slowly zooming in to some portraits and using close-ups to further focus on characters. (The progression of
exhibiting a mid-shot initially showing the portraits and then a subsequent slow zoom in to reveal a more focused
close-up of a person).
• Not only focusing on the characters, but also the intricate objects around (context: show was set in 1980s
England); lamps, intricately made frames, wallpaper of its time...
• Subtle zooming out at the end, fading into darkness, to end the sequence.
• All angles used are eye-level shots (straight ahead-) apart from 0:52, which has a slight tilt, making it a low-angle
shot and perhaps alluding to a more sinister role (implying this person is specifically important to the plot or
themes of the show... perhaps a betrayal.)

4. • The gothic-inspired setting creates an eerie and ominous aura, drawing the audiences in with the conventions
of supernatural shows. The supernatural setting is illustrated through both the unsettling house/mansion the
intro is filmed in, and the out-of-the-ordinary and horror-like faces melting into featureless visages.
• The Low-key lighting also gives a sense of secrecy, the only thing lighting up the scenery are 19th century
lamps, perhaps implying there will be a set of mystery to the series.
• The Location is what appears to be a wealthy 1980s English mansion, setting the tone and
environment/surroundings and asserting the rough time-period.
• Intricate objects also used connote wealth and the 80s, and the accessories worn by the paintings (like: ring,
earrings, necklace) are distinctive to each character, perhaps hinting at some of their roles or personas.
• Most dressing in elegant and old-fashioned attire (like suits and outfits from the 90s), except the first person
shown, who is wearing a Jean jacket
• Taxidermy decorations on the wall illustrate an animalistic, wild, and maybe even sadistic presentation of either
the respective owners of the mansion, or the character shown in that specific sequence.

5. • The eerie sensation the music gives off mostly is roused by the use of the strings section, with a
stereotypical screeching instrument sliding into the territory of horror-cliché.
• The piano riff in the background in a minor key, further adding to the disturbing and unsettling aura.
• There is a fairly subtle choir in the background, building up the eerie effect.
• There is also a crescendo when the penultimate character is shown, and then silence commences.
