The hare and tortoise decide to have a race after the hare boasts that no animal can beat him. All the other animals gather to watch, sure that the fast hare will easily win. However, after taking an early lead, the hare stops to take a nap under a tree, allowing the slow but steady tortoise to pass him and win the race while the hare is asleep. The moral is that the prideful hare's overconfidence led to his loss, while the tortoise's determination allowed him to emerge victorious through steady, persistent effort.
