The ant works hard all summer collecting food for winter while the grasshopper plays, when winter comes the ant has food while the hungry grasshopper asks for help but is refused because it did not prepare like the ant. The grasshopper learns that it's important to prepare for difficult times ahead rather than take the present for granted.
