Gerunds are the -ing form of verbs that function as nouns, and can be used as subjects or objects in sentences. A gerund can be the subject of a sentence, as in "Playing tennis is fun" or the object, as in "We enjoy playing tennis." Gerunds can also be the object of a preposition, such as in the sentence "He is excited about playing tennis."
