4. "" In the Forbidden City, people can
go and see the art, buildings, and
ancient items from the Ming and Qing
times. People can also see buildings
built like the Forbidden City in other
parts of East Asia and other parts of the
world. In the middle of the Forbidden
City, there is a throne to show the power of the emperors.
Nuerhachi (1559-1626) started building the throne room called the
Imperial Palace. His son Huangtaiji (1592-1643) finished it. They
were both emperors of the Qing. The Forbidden City was
forbidden to people who did not live there, so it was built with
really big stones.

"" To get the stones to the Forbidden City for building,
Beijing’s builders used ice roads. During the winter, it
would be so cold that the roads would be covered with
ice when builders poured water on it. The ice roads
were 70 kilometers
long or 43 miles. The teams of 46 or more men
pulled the stones across the ice roads. This was a
great way to fix the problem of bringing stones to
the Forbidden City for building. The Chinese
knew what they were doing.
