4. 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. Those in times past who looked forward in faith to the coming of Messiah , Enjoy the same eternal life as does the church.
5. They suffered physical death, but now have eternal life with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Able, Enoch, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, King David, Solomon, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and many others looked forward in faith to the coming of the Son of God.
6. 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. It wasn't long then until Jesus would come back, and it's even closer today . "Be ye therefore sober."
7. Sober means to be of sound mind or to have the right mindset , And to live a life of godly moderation and self-control . The right mindset is that which Jesus had , Fully determined to do the Will of God , no matter what the cost.
8. 8 And above all things have fervent (intent; not ceasing) charity (agape; 1 Cor 13) among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. " Above all " -- it's the most important thing. "Have fervent charity among yourselves."
9. 1 Corinthians 13 (TLB) 4 Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, 5 never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. 6 It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever Truth wins out. 7 If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. 8 All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. ..
10. "Charity shall cover the multitude of sins." Love is not blind, as some have said. Love sees the faults, shortcomings, and sins, and yet loves intensely and forever . 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
11. We see over and over that a godly mindset is never concerned with self, But is always concerned with the Will of God and really loving our brothers and sisters. Do you cheerfully make time for others? Or do you begrudge time that is taken from your own desires; That's a good standard by which to measure ourselves as God sees us.
