Hebrews13 1to16new worship

  1. 1. Hebrews 13:1-16 NEW WORSHIP, SIMPLIFIED BUT BEEFY
  2. 2. How would BC worship differ from AD worship? Let’s define the new pattern of honoring God … and keep it in focus.
  3. 3. Hebrews 13:1-16 (Today’s NIV) Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.   4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
  4. 4. Hebrews 13:1-16 (Today’s NIV)    5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,        "Never will I leave you;        never will I forsake you."     6 So we say with confidence,        "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.        What can human beings do to me?"     7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
  5. 5. Hebrews 13:1-16 (Today’s NIV)   9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by the eating of ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who observe such rituals. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.      11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.
  6. 6. Hebrews 13:1-16 (Today’s NIV)   13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.     15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
  7. 7. Lord, I truly want to share a deep, intimate, loving relationship with you. Help me to follow you, obey you and trust you with my whole heart. Help me to always see what it is you expect of me so that I can worship you in a way that honors you most. Open my mind to your expectations so I can be your faithful child.
  8. 11. OUR JOURNEY THROUGH HEBREWS HAS BEEN ONE OF CONTRAST, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE NEW COVENANT BEING SUPERIOR TO THE OLD. ● Jesus is better than the Angels ● Jesus, as the Word, is better than the previous message delivered in bits and pieces ● Jesus’ role (as owner of the house) is superior to that of Moses (servant in God’s house) ● Jesus’ is a better High Priest…a better offering …and he offers a better ‘Rest’ ● Jesus is tops, supreme and absolutely worthy of our praise, worship and obedience. ● Summary…Jesus is better, better, better
  9. 12. SO, IN CONCLUDING THIS BOOK WE DISCOVER A SIMPLE TEMPLATE FOR WORSHIP …ONE BETTER THAN THE OLD WORSHIP IS MORE ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS THAN RITUALS ● The Lord’s Supper and Baptism are the rituals of the church ● The core expectations are about relationships …with God and each other
  10. 13. Remembering all what Easter is all about!
  11. 14. I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. I choose to follow Jesus as my Lord and trust Him as my Savior.
  12. 16. A gift of thanks.
  13. 18. Verses 1-3 LOVING EACH OTHER ● Loving each other ● Entertain strangers ● Prisoners ● Mistreated Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers , for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
  14. 19. Verses 4-6 PERSONAL MATTERS, LIKE MARRIAGE ● Faithfulness to Spouse…or else! ● Loose grip on money ...contentment that speaks of trust in God’s provision 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure , for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,   "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."     6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can human beings do to me?"
  15. 20. Verses 7-8 FOLLOW FAITHFUL LEADERS …ESPECIALLY JESUS! ● Those who helped you onto the Jesus Trail ● Jesus…our consistent leader, Master and Savior 7 Remember your leaders , who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
  16. 21. Verses 9-10 ● Stick to the message of God’s love and care, and shun doctrines that have their list of ‘good food, bad food’ ● Our altar is the altar of our lives 9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by the eating of ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who observe such rituals. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.
  17. 22. Verses 11-14 ● The New Worship Template excludes the religious ingredients of the Old Covenant. ● We worship outside the walls … away from priestly garments, altars and such. 11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
  18. 23. Verses 15,16 The new model is quite simple but profound ● Praise God with our lips ● Do Good ● Share with others 15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise —the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others , for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
  19. 24. APPLICATION: ● The template must never pre-empt the essence of worship. ● The wedding ceremony makes your marriage legal, but love makes it a relationship ● Baptism is commanded, but daily death-to-self living is the essence ● Going To Church is an indicator of our relationship to God, but not a guarantee ● Don’t confuse ‘tools’ for spiritual growth with spiritual growth …ready, attending, participating
  20. 25. IT ALL COMES BACK TO THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS… ● Love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength ● Love people as you love yourself
  21. 26. PRAYER & PRAISE
  22. 28. Lord, I truly want to share a deep, intimate, loving relationship with you. Help me to follow you, obey you and trust you with my whole heart. Help me to always see what it is you expect of me so that I can worship you in a way that honors you most. Open my mind to your expectations so I can be your faithful child.
  23. 29. Go and bless others. Because, God can do anything, far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request through you toward others.
