The Eighth Crusade was launched in 1270 by King Louis IX of France in response to attacks by Syrian barbarians on Crusader states in Syria. The crusade involved French crusaders, Syrians, and barbarians and aimed to control the barbarians and capture land in Tunisia. It ended when all states involved became too weak. King Louis died during the crusade from disease. While it achieved a partial success in retrieving trade rights, it drained economic resources.
