Why it began?
The Fourth Crusade began when pope Innocent
III decided to create forces to attack the Muslims.
This all took place from 1201-1206.
Who fought?
The European Christians, the people of
Zara, and the people of Constantinople were the
people who fought in the fourth crusade.
Where did it take place?
The Fourth Crusade took place in the cities of
Constantinople, and Zara.
Effects?
After the attack on Constantinople, the people of
Venice gained power over more of Europe, and
became a very wealthy people. After 60 years of
Italian rule, the Greeks regained power.
End?
After the attack on Constantinople in 1204, the
fighting diminished, and the Venetians rose to
power. They gained control over that area for 60
years, until it was retaken.
Did they learn their lesson?
Sadly, no they did not. The Fifth Crusade lasted from
1213-1221. It was caused because the Christians
wanted to take back Jerusalem.
