The Disc Image File is
Corrupted Error in Windows 8
Troubleshooting Guide
Why the Error?
• The process of mounting ISO file fails with an error “The disc image file is
corrupted error” in the Windows 8 operating system.
• This presentation will guide you through the step by step troubleshooting
process.
Remove Uninstalled Program Traces
• A Registry entry given below may be associated with Virtual Clone instead of
default Windows.IsoFile. This happens when you remove a program while
leaving its traces into the Windows Registry.
• With the help of Registry Editor (shorten as, RegEdit) program in Windows,
set OpenWithProgids to Windows.IsoFile instead previously uninstalled program
entry such as Virtual Clone. This string is located in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.iso
Use a Program Uninstaller
• A program uninstaller can help with this regards. Your Registry contains
references, entries to programs that are no longer available. The standard
uninstaller would have failed to completely erase these entries, hence you
need a program uninstaller.
• Use Intel SOFTWARE Partner Reginout to remove all left-over entries of
uninstalled programs, scan for Registry entries that conflict with other
programs, and so on. After a reboot your computer should work fine.
Check Disk for Errors
• Windows 8 might have failed to retrieve required data from requested disc
image. Checking disk for errors might work.
• To begin with, open Disk Check-Up by double clicking This PC desktop icon,
right clicking a drive; clicking Properties | Tools | Check.
Clean the Disc
• The disc is unreadable due to dust or any other reasons.
• Try cleaning the disc with a clean and soft cloth and rub it from the center
of the disc to rim.
Replace Image Disc
• Reinsert another disc containing same image file. It may be possible that the
disc is not in a position to retrieve data stored in files.
Re-download the Image
• Try redownloading the image file as it may be corrupted.
