2. Slow Pacing
The pacing in this scene is extremely slow making the first shot last at
least 5 seconds the only movement is the car driving down to
establish the pace of the scene.
Then the second shot is an over the shoulder shot of Sarah and Jess in
the same quadrant with Paul's shoulder on the left quadrant showing
his distance from them symbolizing that Sarah has a better bond with
jess than Paul, this uses the established pace
After the conversation between Sarah and jess the scene cuts to the
family in the car where Paul is distant and when Sarah tries to touch
him he pulls away from her this the cuts to the car crash which uses
fast cut editing
3. Fast cut editing
β’ The editing pace during this scene is extremely fast, it cuts
between these 5 screenshots within a matter of seconds
β’ The section starts quite slow as a build up to the crash
β’ However when the crash happens the pace becomes
explosively fast for a few seconds ending with a gory scene
which lasts for about 1 second
β’ Then it instantly goes to a slower pace than before the crash
as the camera slowly zooms out to a fade to black
4. Transitions
β’ The transitions in this scene are fairly basic because this scene
is effectively conversation so all that is needed are simple cuts
to different shots which consist mainly of over shoulder shots
and close ups of the characters and the transitions donβt even
change during the crash either
β’ However at the end of this crash scene there is a fade to black
to show that this is the end of the scene because that is what
fade to blacks are used for
5. CGI
β’ The use of CGI in the descent is very minimal, this scene and
when they enter the cave is the only time CGI is used
β’ The CGI in these screenshots are the copper pipes and this is
because if you look carefully the tips of the pipes are
transparant
β’ This CGI turns into the real thing in the gore scene straight
after
