This document discusses how businesses can extract value from their GDPR preparations by mapping their personal data supply chain using a Data Value Map. The Data Value Map is a framework that helps stakeholders develop a shared understanding of data initiatives by asking questions about business value, data, people, technology, and processes. Mapping the personal data supply chain can reveal opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, improve data quality, and deliver better customer service. The Data Value Map framework helps businesses break down data silos and gain a holistic view of how data is used across the organization to create happier customers, employees, regulators, and shareholders.

The data value map for GDPR - How to extract Business Value from your GDPR Pr...Ken O'Connor
In this pack from the joint webinar between DAMA UK and DAMA Ireland, Ken O'Connor explains how smart businesses are using the DataValueMap.com (from Cork University Business School) to visually map their personal data supply chain and extract business value in the process.
The DataValueMap.com is a paper based, tech free, silo busting business tool that helps business managers build a shared understanding of any data initiative.
It's perfect for enabling business people to quickly sketch how critical information (such as personal data in the case of GDPR) flows through their business.
Ken explains how The Data Value Map applies "Nudge Principles" (including "Choice Architecture" and "Design Thinking") to Nudge the heads of each business function, i.e. the data stakeholders, to take responsibility for their role in the personal data "Information Supply Chain".
Data Protection Officers (DPOs) will find this very useful when performing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
Dama Ireland slides - Data Trust event 9th June 2016Ken O'Connor
DAMA Ireland held a networking event to discuss establishing a Data Trust or Data Quality Mark. The event provided context on DAMA Ireland as a chapter of DAMA International focused on data management discussions. It then discussed how organizations need facts about the data they depend on, like food labels provide nutrition information. Currently, most assume their data is correct without understanding its quality. The event proposed documenting data as an asset, including definitions, rules, and quality metrics. It suggested a cultural shift is needed for all to understand their role in the data supply chain and raising defects if data is incorrect. Finally, a panel discussed the idea of a Data Trust or Quality Mark to provide transparency into data accuracy.

DAMA Webinar: The Data Governance of Personal (PII) DataDATAVERSITY
To do effective data governance, analysts should preview the amount of data their organization is collecting and consider if it is all necessary information to run the business or just “nice to have” data. Today companies are collecting a variety of Personally identifiable information (PII), combining it with location information, and using it to both personalize their own services and to sell to advertisers for behavioral marketing. Data brokers are tracking cell phone applications and insurance companies are installing devices to monitor driving habits. At the same time, however, hackers are embedding malicious software in company computers, opening a virtual door for criminals to rifle through an organization’s valuable personal and financial information.
This presentation explores:
•What company data should be tagged as “sensitive” data?
•Who within the company has access to personal data?
•Is the company breaking any privacy laws by storing PII data?
•Is the data secure from both internal and external hackers?
•What happens if there is an external data breech?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018. GDPR is a hugely important piece of legislation designed to replace antiquated data protection rules with a new framework which accounts for recent technological advancements.
Fundamentally, GDPR is about protecting people: in this digital age, our world is awash with data and individuals are generating a continuous flow of personal information. This data can hold huge socio-economic value, from individual preference and personalisation, to understanding national health trends and global business insights. But while the digital age has brought forth huge possibilities and benefits, it also carries inherent dangers.
Some of the most powerful companies in the world have established a business model predicated on the basis of data capture. Increasingly, services like email, search and social media have become available free of charge, but this often involves a trade-off where user access comes at the cost of relinquishing control of data. As the value of this information has become clear, there has been growing recognition that a new framework is needed to police this delicate balance and restore ownership and control.
GDPR will significantly raise the bar of obligation and accountability, ensuring that all organisations which handle personal data adhere to strict regulations around privacy, security and consent. This conference will contextualise the changing regulatory landscape, explain the significance of incoming rules, and define the key areas that organisations need to be aware of.
Core conference topics include:
Key legal issues and obligations
Privacy Impact Assessments
Data security and breach notification
Privacy by design
DPO requirements
Practical strategy implementation

Financial institutions have invested in Big Data for many years, and new advances in technology infrastructure have opened the door for leveraging data in ways that can make an even greater impact on your business.
Learn how Big Data challenges are easier to overcome and how to find opportunities in your existing data and scale for the future.
Organizations become trusted brands when they include a data strategy that transforms compliance initiatives into data intelligence. Data Intelligence is built upon compliance and extends to the people, processes and technology involved in the use and transformation of data into tangible business value.
The document discusses how to mitigate data risks with web analytics in light of evolving privacy legislation. It outlines that if a business collects and processes personal data, it needs to follow strict privacy laws to avoid fines. It then discusses key topics around privacy for web analytics, including evolving privacy legislation like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), distinguishing between personal data and personally identifiable information (PII), and using methods like the RACI model and privacy impact assessments to classify risks and assign responsibilities for data use. Color coding of green, orange and red is also suggested to classify risk levels associated with different types of customer data processing.
Automated Data Governance 101 - A Guide to Proactively Addressing Your Privac...DATAVERSITY
“Data privacy,” “data security,” “data protection” –
whatever we call the way we control our data, it isn’t working. Data is as
vulnerable as ever. And this is true for both consumers hoping to keep their
data safe, and for enterprises seeking to govern their corporate and customer
data.
We’re at a crossroads: Governing data and putting data to
use are two dueling objectives, and businesses are stuck in the middle.
Can this problem be solved? In a word: yes.
The answer is through what we call automated Data Governance, which introduces speed, agility, and precision into the process of applying rules on data. Join Immuta for a webinar as we explore these Data Governance challenges and discuss how you can proactively address them with automated Data Governance.
The Economic Value of Data: A New Revenue Stream for Global CustodiansCognizant
Global custodians' big data offers myriad opportunities for generating value from analytics solutions; we explore various paths and offer three use cases to illustrate. Data aggregation, risk management, digital experience, operational agility and cross-selling are all covered.

Business Semantics for Data Governance and StewardshipPieter De Leenheer
Data quality and regulations are perpetual drivers for Data Governance and Stewardship solutions that systematically monitor the execution of data policy. And yet, there is a long road ahead to achieve Trust in Data. It is still a relatively unknown topic or comes with trauma from past failed attempts; there is no political framework with executive champions, leading to reactive rather than proactive behavior, and software support is marginal.
Data Governance and Stewardship requires automation of business semantics management at its nucleus, in order to achieve a wide adoption and confluence of Data Trust between business and IT communities in the organization.
In this lecture, we start by reviewing 'C' in ICT and reflect on the dilemma: what is the most important quality of data: truth or trust? We review the wide spectrum of business semantics. We visit the different phases of data pain as a company grows, and we map their situation on this spectrum of semantics.
Next, we introduce the principles and framework for business semantics management to support data governance and stewardship focusing on the structural (what), processual (how) and organizational (who) components. We illustrate with stories from the field.

Big Data LDN 2018: DATA MANAGEMENT AUTOMATION AND THE INFORMATION SUPPLY CHAI...Matt Stubbs
Date: 14th November 2018
Location: Governance and MDM Theatre
Time: 10:30 - 11:00
Speaker: Mike Ferguson
Organisation: IBS
About: For most organisations today, data complexity has increased rapidly. In the area of operations, we now have cloud and on-premises OLTP systems with customers, partners and suppliers accessing these applications via APIs and mobile apps. In the area of analytics, we now have data warehouse, data marts, big data Hadoop systems, NoSQL databases, streaming data platforms, cloud storage, cloud data warehouses, and IoT-generated data being created at the edge. Also, the number of data sources is exploding as companies ingest more and more external data such as weather and open government data. Silos have also appeared everywhere as business users are buying in self-service data preparation tools without consideration for how these tools integrate with what IT is using to integrate data. Yet new regulations are demanding that we do a better job of governing data, and business executives are demanding more agility to remain competitive in a digital economy. So how can companies remain agile, reduce cost and reduce the time-to-value when data complexity is on the up?
In this session, Mike will discuss how companies can create an information supply chain to manufacture business-ready data and analytics to reduce time to value and improve agility while also getting data under control.

Do we need a Data Trust / Data Quality Mark?
Presentation by Data Management Specialist, Ken O'Connor:
Our food packaging provides facts about the food we buy. It's required by law. These facts enable us to make informed decisions about the food we consume. What about when we seek to make informed decisions in our business processes? What do we know about the data we're consuming? How can we trust that the data we depend on is fit for the purpose for which we need it? In this presentation, you will learn:
Your rights and responsibilities as a data consumer and provider;
The questions you should ask about the data you consume;
The facts you should provide about the data you provide;
The need for a "Data Q-Mark" or a "Data Trust-Level" ;
The presentation was followed by a panel discussion with Ronan Brennan, the CTO of Silverfinch (a MoneyMate company). In October 2015, Silverfinch announced it was handing €2.5 trillion of look-through assets for asset manager clients worldwide. Ronan shared the SilverFinch success story with the attendees, which is built on solid data management practices.

1. In the realm of Natural Language Processing (NLP), knowledge-intensive tasks such as question answering, fact verification, and open-domain dialogue generation require the integration of vast and up-to-date information. Traditional neural models, though powerful, struggle with encoding all necessary knowledge within their parameters, leading to limitations in generalization and scalability. The paper "Retrieval-Augmented Generation for Knowledge-Intensive NLP Tasks" introduces RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), a novel framework that synergizes retrieval mechanisms with generative models, enhancing performance by dynamically incorporating external knowledge during inference.

ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

➢ In Oct 2017, Richard Thaler, co-author of the book "Nudge", won the Nobel prize for
Economics. The book applies “Behavioural Science” to Economics.
➢ Nudge principles accept that we're human, not machines. We make decisions
emotionally, not rationally; and we make mistakes, lots of them.
➢ Nudge tells us that when designing products and processes for people, we are “Choice
Architects” and should apply “Design Thinking”, which anticipates human error and
designs for simplicity and ease of use.
➢ ATMs require us to remove our card before dispensing cash.
Simple examples of good “choice architecture” include:
➢ Petrol caps are now attached by a plastic tether
➢ My ambition is to win the Nobel prize for applying “Behavioural Science” to Data Management

• Kick off the conversation among the data stakeholders using “Data Value Map Question Cards”.
• Together, the stakeholders develop an agreed understanding of their data initiative, the business value it delivers, the
people involved and the information/data supply chain required to deliver it.
• The stakeholders also agree “data behaviours” (aka “Data Governance”) to ensure that the information/data they
require is fit for the purpose of delivering their planned business value – at each point along the supply chain.

15. The Data Value Map addresses “Data Ownership”
(i) all organizational parties have a collective responsibility to ensure data quality (and potential value)
is kept high,
(ii) its flow is not obstructed through the organization, and
(iii) there is a collective ownership from which all parties should benefit.
However, ownership of data is often abdicated by those who have most to benefit (business owners) and
transferred to those who lack the knowledge/domain expertise (technologists) to ensure its quality is
maintained and value realized.
More importantly, it is communication between all data stakeholders that provide the foundation for
realizing the value of data rather than the type of technology used (Redman 2013).
