Promoting Equality in African Schools
Introduction
The African continent faces a myriad of challenges. The challenges vary from one place to another but one specific challenge that's almost unified in the entire continent is the inequality seen in the girl child access to education. In most cases, the girl child has been neglected in ensuring that she gets equal opportunities in African schools. This is because girls have often found themselves being married off to their suitors at a tender age in exchange for cows and other material wealth. Besides that, the girl-child also faces challenges such as inadequate sanitary pads that would enable them to have an easy time in class during their monthly menses (Morrell, 2016). Therefore, this paper highlights the need to support the girl child in African schools and bring equality inaccessibility of studies between these two genders.
Description of the Case
There is a need to promote the development of African women in their continent. This can only be achieved by changing some perceptions about the role of women in this continent and the change of some important issues in society. Besides that, the change needs to be initiated among the girls who still have a long journey in their lives and thus huge impacts in society (Van Wyk, 2015). Therefore, I intend to empower the girl-child in the continent through the provision of equal opportunities for both genders in their schools, this is to make the girls also have the ability to compete favorably with the boys. In most cases, boys have been seen as important individuals in society that require to get an education while the girls get married or committed to home chores before being sent off to their suitors.
I believe that the promotion of the development of the African girl-child is the basic way in which the African continent can be transformed. There have been issues of gender-based violence in which women have been the victims due to the issue of overdependence and need to ensure that they are submissive to their husbands makes them suffer the brutality without raising an alarm (Becker, De Wet & Van Vollenhoven, 2015). As such, with equal opportunities being granted to these girls, there are chances that they will be equipped with the right kind of information and knowledge and hence making it easier to become financially independent and able to advocate for their rights. This would ultimately, later on, lead to reduced cases of inequality in the gender.
Besides that, girls can also be given equal opportunities as their counterparts through the provision of quality drinking water. This is an area in which most of the girls in this continent spend most of their ti ...

Evaluation of Menstrual Hygiene Management among Girls at Karamurani Catholic...PUBLISHERJOURNAL
Menstrual Hygiene Management is an issue interested in Gender Equality and Development sector. Globally, particularly in developing countries, girls reach menarche, rules are applied on how they should conduct themselves. Lack of appropriate products and facilities have been previously cited as potentially contributing to school girls’ absenteeism. The project was carried out in three upper classes of KCPS among girls aged 10-15 years. A cross-sectional descriptive method with quantitative questionnaire was employed. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 software package. In total 90 respondents participated aged 10-15 years, (60%) were Catholics. Majority 93.3% of girls said that menstruation is a physiological process. However, 3.3% said that menstruation is a pathological process. The highest percentage of girls (70%) reported normally use pieces of cloth during menstruation. Seventy percent (70%) of the girls missed some days of school because of menstruation, (86.6%) of girls missed due to lack of money. Furthermore, this study showed that some girls need knowledge on menstruation as a normal physiological process not a pathological process or curse from God. Schooling should be comfortable and positive experience, in an environment favorable to learning. Such things are made difficult for girls with old cloths, causing discomfort, worry and risks associated with poor hygiene. This affects their attendance, concentration, self-esteem and ability to carry usually. Menstruation is a natural part of a woman’s life and girls should not have to suffer in any way because of it.

The conversation continues in schools in Cameroon

PROUDLY WOMAN PROJECT
Starting the Conversation on Menstruation
No one person changes the
World; together we can
change the world by breaking
the barriers of Menstruation
in our societies. Let’s start the
conversation in schools and
fight against the lack of
information on menstrual
health.
Adolescents all over the world
have the opportunity to reach
their dreams if and only a
positive drive is built in them
that is “the right information to
nurture their potentials in the
right direction”.
Our goal is to break the silence
around menstruation and light a
conversation with all young
adolescents in schools and rural
communities and introduce our
re-washable sanitary pad.
Starting the conversation about
Menstruation in schools and
communities is primordial.

The Impact of Menstrual Education
Starting the conversation in Government

Bamenda was much fun. Government
Bilingual High School Down Town
Bamenda has a population of 3500
students with a staff of about 150.This is
one of the most populated government
schools in Bamenda. As a teacher from this
prestigious institution, I deem it necessary
to start the conversation with my students.
For its commonly said, “charity begins at
home”.
We started the race with 100
adolescents from the gender and
Common wealth Clubs of GBHS Down
Town Bamenda who shared their fears
and worries about menstruation. They
were able to break the silence and taboo
around menstruation. They had
activities such as brainstorming,
Sketches, debates and questions and
3. 3
answer sessions with the facilitators.
Some of the problems faced by these
adolescents’ ranges from: the absence
of regular flow of water in schools, the
absence of water system toilets and
money to constantly purchase sanitary
pad which most parents are unable to
constantly provide for their girls.
So what about the future of these
adolescent girls when basic
necessities like sanitary pads are
ignored by their parents and the
State of Cameroon? So where do
they turn to for help? What do they
use monthly? Where do they get
money from?
These and many other questions
kept the adolescents girls perplexed.
But the race continues….
Menstruation matters are important
for all and Mohcam is starting the
conversation and spreading the
news in schools, homes and rural
communities in Bamenda.
Adolescents need to be educated on
their menstrual health and keep
education safe.
Take action by volunteering!
Mohcam is in need of volunteers to join her team in health educative
programs to fight against girl dropouts, HIV/AIDS, Crude abortions, early and
forced marriages, and violence against women, menstrual health and teenage
pregnancies. A few hours a week or month, occasionally or more long term,
you can support Mother of Hope Cameroon’s actions by volunteering
according to your desires, capabilities or availability. Please As fast as
