5. The Mechanism of Urea plus Humic Acid
TBIOCROP SCIENCE 04
HA with Urea 100days
• Inhibition of urease activity in soil about 100days.
• This inhibition will be gradually decreased .
42-50%
Inhibition of Nitrification bacteria activity.
The Nitrogen in soil will be remain42%-50% more by
adding 2%-20% HA after 62days.
HA with
Ammonium hydrogen
carbonate or Ammonia
All of the oxygen functional groups of HA join this reaction and meanly reacted
with Carboxyl group .
The HA with more active functional group has the most strong reaction with
urea, it formed more water soluble RCOONH4 and >C=N groups.
Formula: R-COOH+NH3 → RCOONH4
Formula: R-COOH+NH2CONH2→ RCOOH NH2CONH2

Active
6R-COOH+Ca3(PO4)2 = 3(R-COO)Ca+2H3PO4
2R-COOH+Ca3(H2PO4)2 = (R-COO)2Ca+2H3PO4
2R-COONH4+CaHPO4 = (R-COO) 2Ca+(NH4)2HPO4
R-COOK+Ca3(PO4)2 = R-COOK Ca3(PO4)2
Protection of soluble P
Increase dissolution of insoluble P
1.R-COOH means humic acid with one Carboxyl group.
2.Me means Ca Mg ions.

WHAT
REACTION
WITH
TE&HM Complex
Chelate
The complex ability between HM and
HA significant decrease with the
increase molecular weights.The main
reason is small molecular HA have
more biding site than bigger
For example,
Toxic Cr⁶⁺ will be deoxidized to Cr ⁺ by HA as
the formed complex with HA. This will restrict it
absorbed by crops.
