2. Art J. Samberg has served as the owner of Katonah,
New York’s Hawkes Financial, LLC, since 2009. Prior to
taking this position, Art Samberg served in executive
roles with Pequot Capital Management, Inc., and
Dawson Samberg Capital Management, Inc. In the
past, Arthur J. Samberg has summited Mount
Kilimanjaro.
When a group of celebrities set out to summit Mount
Kilimanjaro in 2009 on behalf of Comic Relief, the
move furthered the misconception that Kilimanjaro
presents inexperienced mountaineers with an easy
climb. Despite the fact that the primary climbing
path is called the “Coca-Cola” route, reaching the
summit of Kilimanjaro should not be taken lightly.
3. As the world’s largest freestanding
mountain, altitude poses the biggest threat
to amateur climbers, who are advised to
take the climb in about six days at a rate of
just over one mile per day. Climbers who
exceed this rate are at risk for altitude
sickness, a condition defined by vomiting,
migraines, and issues with the digestive
system. Local guides estimate that as many
as 70 percent of climbers experience strong
symptoms of altitude sickness, with the vast
majority of climbers experiencing some sign
of sickness.
4. Guides also point out the mental
challenge that comes with sleeping on
the ground for a week or more,
particularly when dealing with the
discomforting effects of drastic altitude
and temperature changes.
