• Art J. Samberg is an accomplished investment professional who owns
Hawkes Financial, a family office located in Katonah, New York. He and
his family have a longstanding history of philanthropy. In 2002, Art
Samberg gave $10 million to his Columbia Business School (CBS) alma
mater to establish the Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching
Excellence.
As part of its overall efforts to promote teaching best practices at CBS,
the Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence presents a range
of events each year. Its 2019 events included a May Faculty
Development Day and an October workshop titled Increasing
Engagement through Cold Calling.
In December, the institute featured a professional development
workshop that offered tools and suggestions to help instructors
anticipate, frame, and conduct difficult or sensitive classroom
conversations with students. Candace Bertotti, instructor at both the
Georgetown University Law Center and the Harvard Kennedy School of
Government, led this informative and cooperative training session.
