You may find your child has trouble in first grade if they are unable to pay attention long enough to finish tasks, show self-control when frustrated, follow directions, name letters and associate sounds with letters, maintain friendships, get along with peers without hitting or yelling, be respectful to teachers, communicate understandably with classmates and teachers, or manage personal hygiene. In second grade, trouble may occur if a child can't listen to and follow multi-step directions, concentrate to complete tasks, work independently, read at grade level, or communicate needs and feelings verbally and respectfully.
