In this tough economy, your engineer leadership team is your competitive advantage. When I speak in public, or conduct a training workshop, or a coaching session, I often humorously state that although I began my career as an engineer, I have since evolved as a human being and now I am in the people business. Many of my clients chuckle, especially my engineer clients, as the general population typically perceives our engineer brethren as NOT being in the people business, and NOT being great leaders of people. And perhaps many of my clients have heard the one-to-many “engineer jokes” which decry our engineer brethren’s interpersonal skills!

Our motivations play an important role in how we understand ourselves and the world. We all operate with assumptions, mindsets and expectations that we are sometimes less conscious of and which are likely to be influenced by our deeper motivational orientations.
By understanding the links between motivational patterns and hidden biases, we can expand our self-awareness, achieve a more complete and objective view of others, and make wiser behavioural choices.
Sitting in your role, getting itchy feet? Feel like you have grown and are ready for the challenge that comes with new responsibilities? We hear you! Our expert speaker, Damian ten Bohmer, will uncover some tips to staying on top of your game in this 30 minutes of Leadership Coaching.

This document discusses strategies for developing greater self-awareness and mitigating cognitive biases. It begins with an overview of how the brain works and how biases form from shortcuts. Specific cognitive biases like confirmation bias are explained. Motivation and deeper drivers are explored using the Individual Directions Inventory assessment. Examples are given of how motivations can lead to biases in thinking. Finally, four strategies are presented for mitigating the impact of biases: increasing self-awareness, reflection, slowing down decision-making, and seeking different perspectives. The goal is to understand biases and how they affect judgment so people can make less erroneous decisions.

This document discusses a presentation on why people fail to learn from mistakes and how to overcome invisible fires that undermine goals. The presentation covers reaching beyond visible obstacles, conducting regular reconnaissance to identify potential issues, preparing the necessary resources, developing routines to stay ready, and seeking advice from mentors. Using change to your advantage - Champers Advisory Masterclass 1Charles Cadbury
The document discusses using change to your advantage and building resilience. It notes that the pace of change is now the norm. It recommends three things: 1) Leveraging the power of routine, 2) Recognizing our innate ability to evolve, and 3) Using a tool to help make changes today. It emphasizes that building resilience comes from accepting reality, believing in yourself, and developing a growth mindset. It also stresses the importance of being balanced, having a sense of community and shared goals, and not trying to manage the pace of change alone. Accountability, communication, support networks, and avoiding the stigma of failure can help organizations and individuals adapt to constant change.
The document discusses qualities of effective leadership and maintaining a positive focus. It emphasizes seeing opportunities rather than problems, surrounding oneself with optimism, and having a vision, passion, and perseverance to achieve goals despite obstacles. Effective leaders communicate openly, inspire others, and help people achieve better lives through positive change. Maintaining a positive attitude even in challenging times is important for leadership.
The document introduces Dorie Clark and her book "The Long Game - How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World". The main idea is that long-term thinking, by eschewing immediate short-term results, allows one to work towards meaningful future goals and achieve lasting success. To be a long-term thinker requires: 1) Creating white space by getting better at saying no and reducing busyness, 2) Focusing where it counts by setting goals, using frameworks, and leveraging time well, 3) Having strategic patience by keeping focused on goals despite setbacks. Long-term thinking provides flexibility and maximizes chances of success.

Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Healthy economic development requires properly managing the banking industry of any
country. Along with state-owned banks, private banks play a critical role in the country's economy.
Managers in all types of banks now confront the same challenge: how to get the utmost output from
their employees. Therefore, Performance appraisal appears to be inevitable since it set the
standard for comparing actual performance to established objectives and recommending practical
solutions that help the organization achieve sustainable growth. Therefore, the purpose of this
research is to determine the effect of performance appraisal on employee motivation and retention.

6. The Parable Of The Woodcutter…
A long long time
ago in a faraway
place, a celebrated
young woodcutter,
who was renowned
far and wide for his
wood cutting
prowess, entered a
tree-felling
competition.
7. The Prize To The Winner …
was 10 pieces of
gold – which
would enable the
young
woodcutter to
take a wife and to
start his own
business as a
wood merchant in
the local village.
8. The Competition From The Surrounding
Villages
was fierce, as
tree cutters were
a very
competitive
bunch and
enjoyed nothing
more than to
show off their
strength and
stamina.
9. Over Several Days Of Tree Felling …
the young woodcutter
beat all of the
competition from the
surrounding villages –
… all except for one
very old and wizened
little man.
10. As The Final Day Of The Competition
Approached ….
the young woodcutter
believed that his
victory was assured.
He had surveyed the
very old and wizened
little man and saw
what he believed were
serious limitations of
both strength and
stamina.
11. And So, As The Final Starting Bell Rang …
The young woodcutter
believed that the days’ felling
would be in his favor.
As they each began their task
the young man noticed that
the old man was frequently
stopping
… and as he had assumed
that strength and stamina
were his competitive
advantage he became even
more convinced that his
victory was assured.
12. As The Day Progressed Towards Sunset …
the young woodcutter was
beginning to feel tired and
sore, however he was certain
that the end-of-day tally of
felled trees was in his favor,
so he soldiered on without
complaint until the final bell
rang.
13. After The Judges Tallied Up The Felled Trees
…
for both finalists they
declared that….
the very old and
wizened little man
had felled more trees
than the young
woodcutter.
14. This Of Course Meant That …
the old man won the
prize, and the young
man saw his dream
of a wife and his own
business being
snatched away.
He was furious and
demanded a recount!
16. Rather Than Walking Away From The
Experience …
without the benefit of
knowing how the old
man beat him, the
young wood cutter
first congratulated him
on his win – then very
pointedly asked him
how he did it.
17. The Big Question…..
“Old man – I want to congratulate
you on winning the competition –
but I have a question to ask you! As
we each began our task this
morning I noticed that you
frequently stopped to take a break,
and as we both know that I had
strength and stamina on my side,
so …
how then was it possible that you
felled more trees than I did?
18. As The Young Wood Cutter Waited For His
Answer….
the little wizened old man
straightened his posture,
and as he stood erect he
leaned forward and grinned
as he looked the young
wood cutter in the eye and
then gently and simply
said…
22. Mindful Leadership …..
