Susan Jaymes is a professor at a mid-sized regional university- Dr- Ja.docxchrisflorence13710
Susan Jaymes is a professor at a mid-sized regional university. Dr. Jaymes has always been popular with the students, who frequently cite her enthusiastic style, hands-on approach, and excellent knowledge base as reasons for taking her class. Her popularity is even further boosted by teaching evaluation scores, which are gathered by the student council and published at the start of each semester. These same scores are also factored into all professors' yearly performance appraisals, and as appropriate, merit increases. Lately, merit increases have become smaller, and the bar that seems to matter most in determining raises has become higher. In response to this, Dr. Jaymes has taken steps to ensure that her teaching evaluations are as high as possible. First, knowing that only the most serious students will attend, she hands out the evaluation during an optional exam review session. Second, she brings snacks and drinks to the session (something she never does during normally scheduled class sessions). Finally, after handing out the forms and before leaving the classroom, she reminds the students "how much your input counts on my remaining employed with the university and how important getting a raise - albeit tiny - is for me to be able to pay my huge monthly student loan payments, considering how little faculty here are paid." Questions 1. Discuss how Dr. Jaymes is using persuasion to facilitate her goal. What methods or theories are being used? 2. Do you think these methods will be effective? Why or why not? 3. Do you think Dr. Jaymes' approach is ethical? Explain. 4. If you were her boss, in other words, the department chair, and you found out what she was doing, what, if anything, would you do and why? 5. The electronic spectra of 1st row transition metal complexes can arise.docxchrisflorence13710
The electronic spectra of transition metal complexes can arise from two types of transitions: d-d transitions and charge transfer transitions. D-d transitions involve electron movement within the d-orbitals of the metal, while charge transfer transitions move electrons from the metal to the ligand or vice versa. Charge transfer complexes form when partial charge is transferred between molecules or parts of a large molecule, resulting in electrostatic attraction. They have characteristic intense colors due to electronic transitions in the visible light range. Examples of charge transfer complexes include iodine-starch complex and potassium nitrate.
The delineation principle A functional specification is not necessaril.docxchrisflorence13710
The delineation principle A functional specification is not necessarily a specification to build something new. It can be used to delineate the existing functions whose attributes are to be impacted by planned changes at planned points in time. Please explain and provide your rationale.
Solution
ANS : The functional specification (FS for short, aka software requirements specification, system specification, product specification.
Definition : A Functional Specification of a (computer) system describes the externally-visible behaviour of that system.
A system as a black box. The black box has two interesting features:
1.Interfaces, through which external entities can interact with the system via a series of inputs and outputs. There are two types of external entities – humans and other systems (also collectively referred to as actors of the system), and we need to worry about them both.
2.State, which changes as a result of interactions with the actors. Think of this as the system’s memory, in which it remembers (or stores) data – usually implemented as a database.
Here there is a Two Key Elements – Functions and Data :
1.Functions – a description of the interactions between the system and its (human and system) actors.
2.Data – a description of the state of the system.
Describing Functions :
The functions of a system are the interactions that can occur between the system and its actors (through the interfaces). An interaction is a sequence of actor inputs (e.g. a user clicking a mouse button) and system outputs.
Data :
Here’s what detail I consider to be allowable for data:
Entity name (so that it can be unambiguously referred to)
Entity description (explaining what the entity actually is – not always obvious)
Attributes:
Name
Description (again, not always obvious)
Type and allowable values, such as:
Note that the above are logical, rather than physical, definitions. For example, a logical type of “Male, Female or Not Specified†might be implemented as a NUMBER where 1=Male, 2=Female, 0=Not Specified, or it might be implemented as a nullable VARCHAR where “Mâ€=Male, “Fâ€=Female and NULL=Not Specified

The copy center at the college of business at Dwight University has be.docxchrisflorence13710
The copy center at the college of business at Dwight University has become an increasingly
contentious item among the college administrators. The department heads have complained to
the associate dean about the long lines and waiting times for their secretaries at the copy center.
They claim that it is a waste of scarce resources for the secretaries to stand in line talking when they
could be doing more productive work in the office. Alternatively, Handford Burris, the associate dean,
says the limited operating budget will not allow the college to purchase a new copier, or several copiers,
to relieve the problem. This standoff has been going on for several years. To make her case for improved
copying facilities, Lauren Moore, the department head for management science, assigned students a
class project to gather some information about the copy center. The students were to record the arrivals
at the center and the length of time it took to do a copy job once the secretary actually reached a copy
machine. In addition, the students were to describe how the copy center system worked. When the
students completed the project, they turned in a report to Professor Moore. The report described the
copy center as containing two machines. When secretaries arrived for a copy job, they joined a queue,
which looked more like milling around to the students. But they acknowledged that the secretaries knew
when it was their turn, and, in effect, they formed a single queue for the first available copy machine.
Also, because copy jobs are assigned tasks, secretaries always stayed to do the job, no matter how long
the line was or how long they had to wait. They never left the queue. From the data the students
gathered, Professor Moore is able to determine that secretaries arrive every 8 minutes for a copy job
and that the arrival rate is Poisson distributed. Furthermore, she was able to determine that the average
time it takes to complete a job is 12 minutes and that this is exponentially distributed. Using her own
personnel records and some data from the university

Not allowed:

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
