The children attended the East Longmeadow Library Summer Reading Club in week three. They visited with a firefighter and toured a fire truck, explored a Dream Lab, went on a scavenger hunt to find places in the community, and visited the Dream Studio. The children helped make dreams come true by coloring pictures that would be donated to help provide livestock to families in need through Heifer International. It was another fun week at the reading club.

The Westing Game
Ellen Raskin was an American author and illustrator best known for her 1978 mystery novel The Westing Game. The novel follows the story of 16 heirs who gather for the reading of Samuel W. Westing's will and must work to solve the mystery of who murdered Westing in order to claim their inheritance. The Westing Game received wide critical acclaim, winning the Newbery Medal and establishing Raskin as an innovative author for children. It has since been adapted for film and theater and is still widely read and studied today for its clever mystery plot and memorable characters.
About Gary Soto
Gary Soto was born in 1952 in Fresno, California and raised in a Mexican-American family that struggled financially, making it difficult for him to focus on his studies. He eventually found inspiration in writers like Hemingway and Steinbeck and went on to earn degrees from Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno. Soto is now an acclaimed author of both poetry and prose and has received several awards for his literary contributions, while also volunteering his time to teach English.

It may be hard to believe, but June has arrived! As the holidays approach we want to encourage our learners to start thinking about places to visit, at least online! Our C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency students can learn more about Japan while they improve their reading and listening skills. Our B1 Preliminary and B2 First learners can start thinking about the next time they will be able to meet their classmates while they practise their speaking. The younger ones can talk about the beach and learn new vocabulary to express their ideas. Happy teaching!
NCTE Poetry Notables, 2017. Individual and Verse Novel Notables from NCTE
This PowerPoint was the program for the 2017 NCTE Annual Conference in St. Louis. The Committee for the Children's Award for Excellence in Children's Poetry presented the program. Cincinnati’s growth and development
Cincinnati was founded in 1788 as Losantiville near Fort Washington and later renamed Cincinnati by General St. Clair in 1790. It is located on the Ohio River at the confluence of the Licking and Miami Rivers. Known as the "Queen City" and "Porkopolis", Cincinnati grew as a center for business and industry in the 19th century, becoming home to major companies like Procter & Gamble, Kroger, and the United States Playing Card Company. Cincinnati expanded from its original site into the surrounding seven hills and developed rail infrastructure to support its growth.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
