Their Lifestyle Their lifestyle was never easy. It involved: fish catching, building their homes, ploughing, making clothes, collecting their daily milk, eggs, wool and meat. The beds were probably not the most comfortable. And if that was not all they had to pay the rent to the tacksman which was never cheap. But they were happy!
The Jacobites and Culloden The jacobite supporters looked up to King James VII. The last Stewart to the throne. The army was led by Bonnie Prince Charlie. The Jacobites went down south to try and win back the throne. They met resistance at Prestonpans. They were forced back up North to Inverness. Near Inverness they met Cumberland’s Redcoats. Cumberland's army was much bigger and they had more weapons than the Jacobites. They massacred the Jacobites within minutes. LOSERS WINNERS
Changes After Culloden After Culloden the Government saw the Gaels as barbaric tribesmen who were a threat. They banned the following: Kilts, Anything tartan and Gaelic speaking.
What was the land used for The clan chiefs used the land for sheep because they were more profitable. The clan chiefs removed the cottars their home land and replaced the people with sheep. He did it because he would make more money from the wool than the peoples rent.
The Evictions! The Evictions took place because most of the people who received a letter would not move out of their family home. The Countess of Sutherland decided to employ the Meanest, greediest and most selfish factor of al l........ Patrick Sellar . He burnt peoples houses and demolished them. He destroyed their soul, belongings, memories and their culture. The evictions took place across the Highlands. The highlanders still feel down-hearted after what that evil man did to their ancestors.
Pictures of their past homes Here are some of what used to be cottars cottages. P.S the quality is not good on the fire burning picture Sorry 
Where the people went ? The people during the Highland Clearances would move to the coast, the lowlands, join the armed forces or move abroad. Some people who were evicted settled on the coast on new crofts (small farms). Land owners raised the rent if the crofters made the land better. A few land owners planned new villages and jobs on the coast although there was never enough work for every person and people had to learn new skills.
Pictures of where they went. This is a map of Britain and Europe which is just some of the places people went.
