Introduction Pakistan is the 6 th  richest nation in terms of coal resources. Pakistan has Coal reserves of about  185.5 billion tons  which are estimated to be worth  $17 trillion. Even if half of the coal reserves are exploited properly, Pakistan would be able to generate 100,000MW of electricity for 30 years. Of the 185.5 billion tons of coal reserves, 175.5 billion tons of coal deposits are located in the Tharparkar District of Sindh.

Benefits of Thar Coal Development Electricity Generation at large scale and maybe at low cost Reduction of foreign exchange imbalance Allocation of domestic natural gas for other priority industrial uses, such as petrochemical and fertilizer industries.
