hisname is…David Lloyd. DavidLloydis originallyfromNew Zealandbuthe now livesin Londonwhere he occasionally
photographswildlife. Inaddition,Davidhasalsomanagedtowinasubstantialamountof awardssurroundinghiswildlife
photography such as the wildlife photographer of the year in 2011, 2012 and even 2014.
When did you move to London?
I movedtoLondon inlate 1989 and I wasactuallyonlymeantto go to Londonforsix-monthjourneybutthe crazything
is, is that I’m still here twenty years after travelling the world and photographing wildlife. I also moved to London to
pursue mycareer inphotographyandnowthisseemslike thatwasthe bestdecisionof mylife asI am able todo whatI
love every day of the year.
‘I rarely consider taking photographs of buildings as they aren’t as interesting as wildlife’
What inspired you to become a wildlife photographer?
That’s actually a very good and complex question because the full truth is, is that I was inspired to become a wildlife
photographer due to multiple different reasons. First of all, when I was a child my Mother always used to take me to
Zoo’sandWildlife parksandinstantlyIfeltaconnectiontherefore,overtime Istartedtophotographparticularanimals.
AlsowhenImovedtoLondon Itravelledtoaplace calledRichmondParkandIdecidedtotake mycamera,once I arrived
here I saw a deer and many other animals and as soon as I noticed them I wouldjust take photographs as I wantedto
learnhowthese animalsoperatewithinthisenvironment. Inaddition,Ihave alsoacquiredeachportfolioof the Wildlife
Photographerof theYear since itsinceptionin1991. Theyhave been,andthey continue to be, my biggest inspiration.

What camera’s do you use to take photographs?
WhenIexplore andtake wildlifephotographsIuse three differentNikonD800E’s with:14f/2.8,18-35f/3.5-4.5,35 f/1.4,
85 f/1.4,70-200 f/2.8 VRII,400 f/2.8 VR,TC-14 IIand a TC-20 III. I predominantlyuse thesecameraswhenIgotocamera
breakingareasas these piecesof equipmentare notmy best.My favourite cameraisthe NikonF3/Twitha motordrive
and50mm f/1.2lens.Thisisafilmcamerawhichwasfirstmade in1980 and I alsothinkthiscouldwell be the bestNikon
camera ever made.
What software do you use to process all of your photographs?
I always process and organise all of my all of my photographsin Adobe Lightroom and I also rarely use Photoshop as I
prefer to keep away from cloning and retouching so I can make my photographs as interesting as possible by keeping
things as natural as I possibly can. For example, when I was editing one of my Gorilla photographs there was a lot of
greencolour fromthe treesand leaves,andI wantedto keepthisstyledaspect to make a particularphotographmuch
more interesting and appealing towards my demographic target audience.

What form of styles do you prefer?
I prefer a fine art style, as I choose to predominantly appeal to buyers of framed photography. Despite this fact, I also
have alsodevelopedalarge preference towardsblackandwhite aswell ascolourfeaturesstronglytoo. Alsolastyearit
was a privilege to see my picture A Flick of a Tail choose for the cover of Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Where are some of your most favourite places to visit and photograph?
In the entire world, some of my most favourite placesto visit and photographare Kenya,Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana,
Congo,and RichmondParkwhichisgenerallyjusta few milesawayfrommyhome inLondon therefore,Iamable togo
to thisparkon frequentoccasionsandphotographwildlifewithinLondonsoIcan attract andintrigue the demographics
within London to these particular photographs.
Have you managed to win any awards over these past few years?
Subsequently,infactIhave,in 2011 I was able to winthe Wildlife Photographerof theYear for my photographtitled‘a
flickof the tail’,once againin2014 I wasable towinthe Wildlife Photographerof theYear formyphotographwhichwas
titled‘The EnchantedWoodland’. IalsomanagedtowinNature’sBestinthe WidlandSmithRice Awardsin2014 formy
three photographstitled‘Sandman’,‘NeckandNeck’,and‘HippoMelodrama’. Finally, Ialsomanagedtowina Nature’s
Best in the Widland Smith Rice Awards in 2012 for my photograph of a Lion titled ‘Embracing the wind’.

Do you have a store available for your demographic target audience?
Yes, I do! Within my store I allow my target audience to buy my book titled ‘As Long as There Are Animals’ as well as
printsof the majorityof myphotographs. Mystore offersthree differenttypesof sizeswhichare;40cm, 60cm and 80cm
and their prices are £100 for the 40cm, £150 for the 60cm and £200 for the 80cm. So check out my store as soon as
possible!
Finally, overall which wildlife animal do you enjoy to photograph the most?
In fairnessthisisactuallyquite adifficultquestionasIthoroughlybelieve thateachindividual wildlife animal isgreat in
itsownunique way. Butif I hadto answeryourquestion…Iwouldsaythe AlphaMale LionasI enjoyphotographingthis
animal’s dominance over other Lions,I just think it is amazing how they control their own societyand after years and
years of photographingIcan confidentlysaythat theyare like usbecause one of theirmainprioritiesisto protectand
feed their young cubs.
