and claimed it was independent of Mexico.
– This made Mexico scared that Anglos were trying
to take over Texas.

Law of April 6, 1830
– Mexico passed the law of April 6, 1830 in response to
the Mier y Teran report.
– Said that there was to be no immigration from the
U.S. into Texas, and that slavery was outlawed

he was arrested for writing a letter Mexico considered
