Tesla intends to acquire SolarCity, the top solar panel installer in the U.S., despite its history of unprofitability and heavy debt. Tesla's CEO Elon Musk believes the acquisition could enhance both companies' profitability and operational capabilities, however, analysts caution against the deal due to SolarCity's financial instability and Tesla's own profitability issues. The document concludes that Tesla should not proceed with the acquisition unless a fair price is negotiated, as SolarCity's current valuation appears inflated.
