Owner-occupation is the clear tenure of choice for most Britons but they think politicians are not being honest about the prospects for people to own. These are among findings from new research by Ipsos MORI published today by the Chartered Institute of Housing.
The survey, conducted by Ipsos MORI in advance of the EU Referendum vote and the CIH’s annual conference in Manchester, found 46% of the view that people have equal opportunities to get ahead in Britain, a drop of seven points since 2008.

Survey background & methodology
Ipsos MORI interviewed a representative sample of 2,002
adults aged 15+ face-to-face in-home across Britain (all but
Q3-Q6 asked of 999).
Fieldwork was conducted between 10-21 June 2016. Data
has been weighted to the known population profile.
Data are weighted by age, gender, region, tenure, social
grade, work status etc. to reflect the GB adult population.
Where percentages do not sum to 100, this is due to
computer rounding, multiple responses or the exclusion of
‘don’t know’ categories
