We are in the mobile era where mobile technology is available to billions of people around the world. Education should take advantage of this availability to deliver education to everyone regardless of location and status. Society has the responsibility to provide a basic education to everyone. This is reinforced by UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: “inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning for all”. There are many benefits for using mobile learning in education, but the most important ones include reaching people in remote locations, educating the disadvantaged, allowing learners to learn in context, and facilitating social interactions for learning. The implementation of mobile learning and the availability of open education resources will provide equal access to education to citizens of the world and allow education to reach the unreachable. People in many countries, especially developing countries, already have mobile technology which they can use to access education. People in developing countries are skipping the large computer age and moving directly to mobile technology. The young generations of students are comfortable using technology. This provides an excellent opportunity for educators to reach learners around the world regardless of location. The combination of mobile learning and use of open education resources will make education affordable to everyone. Education for all cannot be achieved with the current traditional education system where learners have to go to a specific location to learn. Using mobile technology allows learners to use the communication capabilities of the technology to network with people around the world so that they learn from each other and share information. Mobile and emerging technologies will allow ubiquitous access of information and learning materials where citizens of the world can access learning materials from anywhere and at any time. The technology will exist everywhere giving learners’ seamless access to learning materials. The learning space is moving away from the classroom at a specific time to anyplace and anytime. This presentation will describe how mobile technology can be used to increase access to education. It will present examples of successful mobile learning implementations. Participants will be able to identify how they can use mobile learning in their organizations to provide flexible access to education.

At the conclusion of the professional postgraduate programmes at National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS), all students do not achieve the same level of information skills, especially with regard to ICT. An intervention was proposed to overcome this inadequacy; and a two-fold strategy was implemented to gradually increase the information skills of students following the Masters in Teacher Librarianship (MTL) course. The first part was an orientation, while the second part was integration of ICT into the teaching-learning process. Google Apps for Education was used to improve collaboration between students and teachers. Students were appreciative of the new method of teaching & learning, observation, feedback, and other assessments and showed a rapid improvement in their ICT and information skills.

This paper builds on research directions from ‘activity theory’ and ‘learning design’ to provide ‘facilitation’ for students standing within decision making related to selection of web 2.0 tools and university provided web-based applications for supporting students activities within problem and project based learning. In the area of problem and project based learning, facilitation is the core term and the teacher often has the role as facilitator or moderator instead of a teacher teaching. Technology adoption for learning activities needs facilitation, which is mostly absent. Sustainable adoption might be facilitated based on tool appropriation with activities associated with courses and projects. Our mapping of different tools in a framework is reported based on interviews, observations, narratives and survey. A direction towards facilitation process for adoption is discussed as part of future scope of work.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.
